Greetings fellow Travellers
I am just getting back into building a new Traveller Campaign (using the Megatraveller ruleset), and lacking a good deal of background material (ie I have the basic rulebooks, the Referee's Companion and the Rebellion Sourcebook), and not being too fond of some details I know, am on the way of hammering things into place on my own.
Basically this means designing the setting by defining the way imperial society works, detailing the system(s) I will set my campaign in, and redesigning a lot of ships, vehicles and equipment to my liking.
A lot of work, though I will go by storytelling aspects, references to written sf, and common clichees...
On thing I know I will have to do is to define what a society at a certain techlevel works like - what are everyday articles, what doesn't raise an eyebrow and where are the areas that go one level up and several levels down. Something I'm not too sure about...
Then how a society of a specific setting might be organized - what are the legitimate spheres of influence of the various factions, who can tell and tells whom to do what and so on...
The list goes on - work in progress here.
I will write down my notes in a more or less regular fashion, and post them here, free for comments.
My setting in broad strokes :
The Dartus System (Depot Gushemege), 1115, the dawn of the Imperium, but no-one knows of that yet. Each character is in a position just outside the circle of those in power - meaning field grade officers at about Captain/Colonel rank, nobles belonging to the Moot, and in an occupational position that gives them a deal of trust from their higher ups - like Adjutants, advisors, family members.
The idea is to first build up a picture of the Imperium as is (before the Rebellion), by playing a couple of "more mundane" adventure storylines, then, as soon as they developed a positive group dynamic, slowly entangling them into politics. Then with the news of the murder of Strephon having them take part in the decision process about loyalties.
Thanks for listening
