page 336, Table B, Armor Layers. Am I reading this correct that different armor types are limited by hull configuration? Is shell the only armor available to Airframe??

Yes they are limited by Hull Configuration but no Shell can be used for Streamlined, Airframe and Lifting body.

[Edit] misread the question first time around. Airframes can also get Polymer and Organic armor.

Ah I see. I would seem so. Shell is the the only armor available for Lifting Body hulls.

Shell is meant to represent how the body or hull of most aircraft are constructed and is supposed to be "best adapted to atmospheric flight".
