Spinward Marches Campaign UWP Data

I must be autistic or something... but... I'm comparing this data

http://traveller.wikia.com/wiki/Spinward_Marches_Sector/data

to the UWP info in the Spinward Marches Campaign. I've looked at the first column of hexes... 31 more to go! I found two differences so far:

Zeycude-- Base A in SMC (nothing in the file).
Uniqua-- Second star is M9 in SMC (marked as M2 in the file).

Has this been hashed out already? Is SMC the definitive CT sector map or are there known problems with it?

Dunno... I do know that the diff from various data sources is very much a Textual Criticism type issue. Whence cometh the wikia article data?

No idea.

Found another

Rushu is E766674-4 in SMC, but E765664-4 on the wiki.

It was E765664-4 in supplement 3. So this is a variance between SMC and Sup3.

Nomym is C233898-A on the wiki and in SMC, but is C233868-A in Sup3.

So the wiki sometimes matches Sup3 and sometimes matches SMC... it's not consistently one or the other!

Ninjar has an 'Ic' trade code on the SMC data, but not on the wiki or Sup3.

Froin has an 'RsZ' trade code on the SMC data, but not on the wiki. It's "lmperial Research Station" in Sup3.

Ucella has an 'C0' trade code on the wiki, but not on the SMC data or Sup3.

Kardin has an 'An' trade code on the SMC data, but not on the wiki or Sup3.

Retinae has an 'RsD' trade code on the SMC data, but not on the wiki. it's "Imperial Research Station" in Sup3.

Sansibar has an 'D4' trade code on the wiki, but not on the SMC data or Sup3.

Mire is M6 V on the SMC data, but M3 V on the wiki.

Okay... that's page 22 of the Spinward Marches campaign checked against the wiki... which... doesn't mean anything because we don't know where the wiki came from.

Why was I doing this?

I want the SMC UWP data in text file format... exactly the SMC data regardless of the errors because it's the last definitive CT statement on those worlds, right?

I think that's why I wanted it....

One column checked, six more to go...! (I've checked up through world 614.)

One more column checked:

Nosea's base type is 'N' in the SMC-- it's 'M' on the wiki.
Zircon's base type is 'G' in the SMC-- it's 'M' on the wiki.
Torment has a trade code of 'Ex' in the SMC-- it's not on the wiki.
Ator has a trade code of 'An' in the SMC-- it's not on the wiki.
The PBG code for Entrope is 110 on the SMC-- it's 720 on the wiki.
Gougeste's allegience is 'CS' on the SMC-- it's 'Na' on the wiki.

I've worked through hex 1110.

Explanations:

The base type of N means it's a imperial naval base-- as opposed to being a non-aligned military base.

The base type of G means it's a Vargr naval base.

The Ex code stands for "Exile Camp". (??)

The An code stands for an "Ancient Site". (!!)

The first bit of PBG data refers to population... the second to Asteroid belts....

An allegience of CS signifies Client State... as opposed to the Na being Non-Aligned.

Enos base type is 'G' in the SMC-- it's 'M' on the wiki.
Frenzie has a trade code of 'Cp' or '*' in the SMC-- it's not on the wiki.
Judice has a trade code of 'RsH' in the SMC-- it's not on the wiki.
Calit has a trade code of 'C1' on the wiki-- this isn't in the SMC.
Arkadia's primary is M8 in the SMC-- it is M1 on the wiki.
Rangent's primary is M8 in the SMC-- it is M4 on the wiki.
Dyrnwyn's, Duerndal's, Hofund's, Sting's, Biter's, and Steel's allegiences are listed as 'Bw' in the SMC-- they are 'Sw' on the wiki.

That takes us down to hex 1533-- almost halfway through the corrections. Three columns down, three and a half columns to go.

Mitril has a tech level of 0 in the SMC-- it's 7 on the wiki.
Tenalphi has a trade code of 'An' in the SMC-- it's not on the wiki.
Iron, Bronze, and Mithril's allegiences are listed as 'Bw' in the SMC-- they are 'Sw' on the wiki.
Efate is listed as having a PGB of 800 in the SMC-- it's 810 on the wiki,
Ruie (1809) is listed as M5 V-- it's M3 V on the wiki.
Victoria (1817) is listed as M6 V-- it's M2 V on the wiki.
Spirelle has a trade code of 'D1' on the wiki-- this isn't in the SMC.
Mithras has a trade code of 'Pr' in the SMC-- it's not on the wiki.
Trane has a trade code of 'An' in the SMC-- it's not on the wiki.
Yori has a trade code of 'RsB' in the SMC-- it's not on the wiki.

One more column done! 2.5 to go!

Byret (2523) is listed with M9 V in the SMC-- it's M0 V on the wiki.

Okay... just 1.5 columns to go!

I think the differences can be explained:

the Scout service updates the sector maps every 20 yrs. Changes and errors come to light.

CT A00 Adventure 00 The Imperial Fringe pge 9.

World 2632 is listed in SMC but is not on the wiki at all!
Jesedipere (3001) is listed in the wiki but is not in the SMC at all!
Natoko has a trade code of 'An' in the SMC-- it's not on the wiki.
Duale has a trade code of 'RsA' in the SMC-- it's not on the wiki.
Hexos has a trade code of 'C3' on the wiki-- this isn't in the SMC.
Henoz has a trade code of 'C0' on the wiki-- this isn't in the SMC.

2. THE MYSTERY OF THE MISSING PLANET (soon to be published as "Alfred
Hitchcock and The Three Investigators book #1999 ;-)

BTW, Can anyone resolve the mystery of the missing planet? In _The Spinward
Marches Campaign_, p27, this listing appears:

Hex UPP B Remarks Data Star1 Star2
2632 X895674-8 Ag nIn An R201Im F3 V M0 D

This listing is repeated in the _Imperial Encyclopedia_.

However, the original _Supplement 3: The Spinward Marches_ and the new _RSB_
do not show this listing.

(Note that this mystery system never appeared on ANY star chart).

Ideas, anyone:
- Ancient site, currently under exploitation?
- Grandfather's Virus trap activated?
- ?!?!?!?

The last of them:

Vanejen has a trade code of 'C4' on the wiki-- this isn't in the SMC.
Vanejen has a trade code of 'RsG' in the SMC-- it's not on the wiki.
Patinir has a trade code of 'An' in the SMC-- it's not on the wiki.
Dojodo has a trade code of 'C0' on the wiki-- this isn't in the SMC.
Mora is listed with M5 V in the SMC-- it's M4 V on the wiki.

I LOVE these kinds of errors as a Referee. I have always used the published sectors as "player's information". If there are errors in the books, they are errors in their database. If I want to change something I do, but I DON'T change their data, let them find out the hard way.

This is a perfect example of where the players have 2 sets of conflicting data. Which is right? I tell them to go to the hex and find out...

Heh heh.

Any universe where the navigators are dependent on "Jump Tapes" deserves to be destroyed by an incomprehensible Computer Virus.

Any players in said universe deserve to get stuck with incorrect census data.

This is one more of those "signs of the times" that Hari Seldon would have identified.

That willingness to "go there" is what seperates the players from the schmo's that are going to be responsible for everything coming apart.

My guess is this was an accidental copy of Corfu (2602), also with a UWP of X895674-8 and also designated a Red Zone. I don't think Corfu has a Ancient site, and the stellar data is slightly different.

That said, I'm personally *keeping* the mystery planet in *my* Spinward Marches data.
