Space Western for Cepheus Engine

Nightwind1

SOC-12
See, here's how it is...

I'm thinkin' of developin' a setting, for publication, of a Cepheus space-western.
Inspired by lots of space-cowboy-type media, from bounty huntin' to hot jazz music, to haulin' black-market beagles in lightening-bug-based mid-bulk freighters.

A setting where characters with names like Spike, Malcom, Faye, Zoe, and Bat Durston might feel right at home, where you could find a crew and keep flyin'.

Would this be an undertakin' folks might-could-be interested in?

It might be easier to adapt Space: 1889 to Rider

Otherwise, you could use the concept of Space: 1889 as a starting point for a game or setting.

Not talking steampunk, though. As noted in my OP, I'm thinking of Firefly, Cowboy Bebop, The Mandalorian, etc.

So, bassically what H. Beam Piper did with his story Lone Star Planet aka A Planet for Texans. I am working on the same thing with my planet, El Paso, in my Piper-Norton Out Rim Sector.

There are three "western campaigns" out already. Well technically two.
Mongoose - Cowboys and Xenomorphs - Technically this is MgT1e, not Cepheus
Michael Brown - Under Western Skies - Brown's micro-sized products are ok primers, an adventure or two are already out.
Independence Games -Rider - This 300+ page behemoth is quite crunchy and almost perfect. Backgrounds, 23 new careers, equipment, animals, vehicles (stagecoaches, railroad engines and railroad cars).

I could see this as a guide for designing other campaigns like the real Age of Sail (the original, not the OTU,), 1920's gangsters and so on.

Not Western. Space Western. Firefly, Cowboy Bebop, etc.

Nightwind, I am unsure how using Rider and the core Cepheus rules would not already give you what you are suggesting. Maybe I am missing something but Firefly or Cowboy Bebop etcetera seems to be flavored by rider with use of some of the quick draw rules etc and Cepheus for the space travel elements. But maybe I am missing what you are trying to tap into.

Well, Clement Sector itself is set up as a bit of a space Western. When my players and I decided we didn't like the OTU back in 1989, they tasked me with coming up with something different. I started watching Westerns (specifically Silverado) to get the right feel of the setting and that campaign ran from 1989 until 2015. I started publishing it as "Clement Sector".

So there's a lot of Western in it and that's entirely intentional.

Also, why it was easy to move over to doing Rider as well. As a longtime fan of Westerns, it just seemed natural to move from a space Western to an actual Western. You may find our Rider campaign setting, New Liberty, to be helpful as well.

Honestly, to me, that just sounds like Clement Sector. That reads a lot like a sales blurb I'd write for it. LOL.

And I've just noticed two things.

1> You're planning on publishing this not just making a campaign for you and your players. Had I noted that, I'd have probably not said anything.

2> I have no idea how to edit posts on this new version of the board.

I have tried John. You have 5 minutes or so to edit your post, lest it be immortalized in binary forever. The clickie then disappears. Annoying for me as don't have all my thoughts together in one shot. (Everyone says that LOL). I suggest you use the draft button (the diskette icon on the reply.
EDIT: (LOL)
The edit clickie link is on the lower left to the right of the report and delete links. For like 5 minutes or so.
