Ship Shares table clarification

BlindGuy

SOC-12
Hi,

I'm wondering how to parse the ship shares table. It isn't reading particularly well with my screen reader. I'm trying to create a scout, but am unsure how he can end up with a scout ship by ship shares alone.

Is the table saying that he needs 1 share per 25 tons, that is, 4 shares for a scout ship on loan? I'm a bit unclear on which ships require 4 shares and which require 3.

Thanks for clarification :)

You can buy the Scout (or any other ship) with any ship shares at 1 share per 25 Dt, with a mortgage for the rest. Available for any character from any career.

OR

You can get a long-term loan of a Scout for 1 share, only available for ex-Scout characters.

Scholars can loan a Lab Ship 3 share.
Spacer Officers can loan a Patrol Corvette for 3 shares.
Any character with SOC 11+ or Fame 17+ can loan a Yacht for 3 shares.

The three shares for loans are all or nothing; no partial loans. Only one character can contribute.

You can buy ships (25 Dt/share) with any amount of shares and all characters may contribute shares. They hold ownership in relation to contributed shares.

All this is my interpretation of the very brief rules, generally based the T5.09 text with questions filled in from earlier editions.

Thanks… This helps a lot. The screen reader is very good, but occasionally gets quite confused. I'll have to see what I can do about creating alternative fill forms, since it seems to mess those up particularly often.

as well you can find the value of a ship share for a particular class of ship is as follows: (25/Ship Dtonnes)xTotal Ship Cost = value of share

a fixed value is also possible if you have use something like a mean ship value. The value is very rough and tumble as you'll see.

(approx values from CT)
100200400600800
SCOUTFtraderSubMercxMercCru
SafarilabSubLinerx
xxpatroCruix
29mcr37MCr101MCr236MCr445MCr
7.2MCr4.66.39.813.9

so it is around 8MCr per ship share... but it does appear the larger the ship the greater the worth of the ship share and it appears to be approximately 1.5x the next lower tonnage with a base value of around 7MCr for a ship that is smallest J Capable. (min fittings to make a ship, gets slightly cheaper for a bigger ship and then increasingly larger costs per ton as you max out space, range, and capacity)

a used ship may be distinctly cheaper than a brand new ship => I apply a standard depreciation of 7% off the lot and 1% per year of age to a min of 25% of initial cost and maintenance costs increasing by 10% per 10 years of service.
