Seeker trying again?

Seeker Gaming Systems. I guess the 5th time's the charm. Or is it their 10th try at this?

Anyone who has been a Traveller veteran since the 80s/90s knows what I'm talking about. This company has re-opened, closed down, re-invented itself, closed for business, then re-invented itself again .... several dozen times. OK OK so I'm exagerrating. Just a little. ;)

But hell.... I'll say ONE THING: They sure as hell had some of the sweetest Traveller products in days of yore.

"Yes! SEEKER Gaming Systems will be re-opening soon with

a New line of products as well as our Traveller line.

We hope to be open by November 1, 2009"

I don't work for them, I don't advertise for them. I only find it... incredible that they are still...alive.

Forgive me but I will believe it when I see it. I had asked them to put their art portraits aside when the US$-Cnd$ was at an all time low for Christmas. Considering each pack was valued at $100.00, it was a reasonable request and they agreed even though that meant a layaway of over 8 months. Come Christmas time, they had already shut down their website and when it restarted they refused to honor their agreement.

So, I know they literally run their operations from a basement, but come on...you have to have some customer service skills not to mention decency when you are in a business with such a small audience as our hobby.

As one who has been a Traveller veteran since 1983, but who never mass-minded with the herd hypnotizedly following the latest so-called "new&'mproved edition"... Who? And what products did they put out?

You never knew that the following Traveller products existed?
(mostly from the MegaTraveller era)

Plus I'm sure they had many more.

They also put out a few "one-of-a-kinds", deckplans/products that absolutely NO ONE ELSE DID in the Traveller market at the time.

.... like a huge 25mm miniature scale "Made For Traveller" deckplans of an entire corporate high-tech skyscraper.

These deck plans don't seem special nowadays. But back in 1987 (their oldest products seem to date around 1985).... those products were awesome to have, especially if you used Traveller minis.

I bought my LBB based on a review in MOVES by Phil Kosnett say in 78 or 79.

I never heard of SEEKER, never owned a product by them and was dis-satisfied by the Fugate takeover direction and walked away till 2006 when I re-started with GURPS TRAVELLER.

I'm not averse to their 3d Poser content either (and looking at the amount of art out there using their stuff they must have sold a fair amount). It even features in the Mongoose Civilian Vehicles book (not that I've got mine yet, Matt?).

I'm a little saddened every time I see Seeker stuff. A few years ago (well, quite a few I suppose) my FLGS at the time had all of them, some in multiples, on sale in the bargain bin one day, nobody else was buying old Traveller stuff at the time. I would have bought them but I wanted them all and had to wait a couple days for the coin. The place burned to the ground that weekend... :(

I never knew any of those existed.
That corporate building plan looks useful. Wouldn't mind getting a copy of that.

If seen these listed on Amazon from time to time, offered by used book firms that have good reputations on Amazon. I've been watching for this particular one to be available too but I haven't seen one offered lately.

Their deckplans for the Research Facility was even more useful, IMHO. It was basically an Imperial-era Research Facility complex. It's the kind of plans a Traveller referee would dream of using when the scenario called for a mercenary raid on an Imperial megacorporation like SuSAG, or GasBAG, or any other Imperial megacorporation with some clandestine research project.

I have only 3 of their starship deckplans (still in shrinkwrap, like the Gazelle Escort, Empress Marava, Lab Ship), but I've never been able to find the others.

That's a sad tale, Far-Trader. Looks like these are the Traveller items that THEY didn't want you to have.
For myself, I welcome the return of the Alien Overlords.

The only time one of those pre-order deals ever worked out for me was for an O gauge train engine order, and even then it required the bankruptcy court telling a buyer to honor the orders, and them deciding to upgrade my level of order, and even then it took three extra years.

So what I am saying...if they are taking pre-orders to fund the ramp-up, count on getting screwed.

But it's not like I was buying Plan 9 From Outer Space... the REAL one :smirk:

Sounds like an insurance job.

Nah (at least not on the FLGS' part), it started in the store next door (a bakery? oven iirc). And nobody hurt on the plus side. It was a real pity though, nice Game Store, they'd just moved in not long before. Lots of room, lots of stuff, bright and clean, easy to get lost for hours just browsing.

I got the Ship plans but I missed out on the building plans.Saw them once at the main FLGS we went to at the time & I didn't have the money that day & they weren't there when I went back the next time.

Yes, I have often longed to get my hands on the MegaTraveller Corporation Building...they had promised that they were re-releasing the last time but balked...along with Far Traveller#3...

So I guess we will see on Friday, if their word is worth anything, as they did not meet the Nov. 1st and their power fusion site is down until tomorrow.

Call me jaded and skeptical but I don't think we will be seeing anything or the prices will be too high for the average gamer which is what I found about their Fusion stuff...

Ah, yes. Far Traveller #3. That, and Ryker's Catalogue of Arms from Paranoia Press and a series of High Passage would have welcome had they survived to see print.

Bah. Who cares about their Fusion 3D stuff. I wouldn't pay for it. It doesn't look that outstanding to me. And the ships and vehicles they have using the Fusion 3D do not have a very "Traveller feel" to me.

If you want to find someone to do 3D Traveller vehicles or ships.... IMHO, our resident artists like Andrew Boulton or Crow do a far better job. The 3D designs they have done look exactly like what Traveller ships and vehicles should be. That newcomer named magmagmag looks like he can produce some nice stuff too. Maybe ask them if they are willing to do commissions?

Personally, my favorite 3D Traveller artist is Jesse de Graff. His stuff has been published in several of GURPS Traveller books.
