I had missed that thread, thanks. In reading the Risk/Reward part it seems it could be read two ways, roll vs CC+Mod (terms) (easier as terms increase) or roll + mod (terms) vs CC (harder as terms increase).
Regarding the reward roll, is R = to just the die roll or die roll + the 0-7 mod you choose to get which career the scheme involves?
No, wrong modifier.
When you take your R/R rolls you can choose to add a modifier of anything you want. Since T5 is "roll below target to succeed" you would add that modifier to the Risk roll making it more difficult. Then subtract it from the Reward roll. Here is an example.
Assume your CC is an 11. You decide to take a DM3 on the Risk roll making the new target an 8. You roll a 6 and succeed. Now it is time to roll for the Reward. Since you took a -3 on the Risk, you get a +3 on the reward effectively making it a 14, which you can't miss with 2d6. You roll anyway since you need the roll for the payoff, and roll a 4.
That 4 is
R for the Payoff equation and the 3 is the
mod. So the equation for this term would be:
P = V * (1 + CC + Mod - R)
P = V * (1 + 11 + 3 - 4)
P = V * (11)
So if your scheme was against a Noble you would have a 5.5MCr payoff. Not shabby. If it was a Scout or Merchant you would have 11 Ship Shares which in T5 means you could own a 225dT ship. (25dT / Ship Share if I recall).
At least this is my understanding of how it is supposed to work. As for the fact that currently the Rogue career is not required to change the CC each term, that is another story.
And the Terms mod, still not sure if that is supposed to make things easier or harder as you go on in your career. One part says easier as you get more experience, another says harder as you age.
