Reconstructing the MegaTraveller "look"

Ok, other than the "cartoon-realism" art painted like an American 80's pop album, what I'm really asking about is fonts...

I know that for Classic Traveller, it's Optima on the covers, and Univers 55 inside.

But for MegaTraveller, what are the fonts? It could still be Univers 55 inside, but the "MegaTraveller" label certainly is an unfamiliar font to me.

I don't want "free" copies, etc. I want to know the exact typeface that might have been used...

Yup.

Really? Univers 55? I'd have said Ariel - anyhoo, thanks for that insight Don.

....muttermuttermutternowIhavetogobackandchangeeverything..... ;)

So do you mean the actual title on the front cover of, say, MT Ref Manual? You want to know what font that is in, yes?

Cover Logo

URW Globe CE Over weight

or Globe Over Weight OT Std URW

It's hard to tell since I don't have the font, but I think that the typeface was thickened up with a heavier stroke.

Interior Fonts

Optima for Chapter Titles.

Helvetica for body copy. Probably the original Helvetica that came with Postscript printers. Today, Adobe Helvetica Std Roman is a good fit.

(Not Univers; the numeral 2 is a dead giveaway. Univers *is* the typeface in CT though. However, my copy of the LBBs makes me think that it might be Univers 45 [or maybe my printing was a little light]).

Univers was a very common sans serif body text typeface used in the pre-DTP days. Adobe chose Helvetica instead of Univers for the first postscript printers. Microsoft created Arial, a Helvetica knockoff, for its initial Truetype library IIRC. long after CT was published.
