Rebellion Redux: The Game of Thrones in SPAAACE!

Inspired by Game of Thrones, I've thought of maybe running a Rebellion era Traveller game with the PCs as members of a very prominent noble family. They would not only experience the the Rebellion- they'd actually be able to influence the outcome. The first thing is to know when to ignore the 'canon history.' Instead of a pre-determined metaplot, you have a fluid situation in which we know that bad things will happen- but we don't know what exactly will come next. I'd probably modify the initial set up a bit, too, as I seem to recall a few things about Dulinor's plot struck me as implausible. Something about fleet movements, I think...

Thoughts?

It won't work using the whole Imperium - travel time and communication time are just too great.

Stick to noble families within a sector and it's doable - alternatively have faster travel times for fleets and comms through jumpgates.

How you deal with a sex mad dwarf is up to you... =)

Game of Thrones, as the Rebellion. me likes it. Even if you go with the Official History there are lots of backwaters where a backwater Sector could be won or loss for want of a nail. What would be intriguing if you added in the different factions of the Noble's family actually splintering and taking different factions as their own. This way you can solve the communication/travel lag. Add to that the possibility of foreign intrigue...

Plus, with so many safes in the Rebellion rapidly contracting, it makes the whole situation fluid. And, even if they side with Lucan does not mean that they actually are with Lucan. Look how long Norris was able to hide behind the Claw under the banner of Imperial Honor...when all he was doing was not getting involved.
