Question about ammunition types from the Central Supply Catalogue

I’ve a question about the different types of ammunition presented in the Central Supply Catalogue, specifically Discarding Sabot Armour Piercing (DSAP)

The book states for gauss weapons, their normal round is treated as armoured piercing but it can be upgraded to DSAP for improved performance. Given how gauss guns work, would firing a DSAP round really have any benefit?

Not got this one yet but from what you say it is absolutely pointless. Just an example of a writer not fully knowing the subject but there is no reason why a gauss weapon couldn't use a DS round.

Perhaps the penetrator is a super dense ceramic composite and requires a metal sabot. The gauss weapon may have advanced setting to allow DS rounds to be fired at higher than normal velocities which would see standard rounds disintegrate (much like the original AP shot used in WW2).

All gauss wepons can use DSAP rounds except pistols.
(Tho I do not see why not)

The rounds cost 10x normal and bypass 2 poins of armor for every D6 of normal damage.
