Puppeteers

After reading Ringworld I find the puppeteer probably the most interesting alien I have read about and it would be interesting to adapt them to traveller. In some ways they remind me of Hivers and the KKree but the cowardice is an interesting thing to play out. Their physiology is quite alien as well.

I think most people figure the Hivers as an analog to them.

I read a story last summer by Poul Anderson, one of the Falkayn
stories, where Falkayn gets kidnapped or snatched and coming
to his rescue is his Centaur-like friend, wielding a minigun or
other heavy auto-weapon.

I'll have to re-read that one again, it was fairly entertaining.

Someone mentioned Baen is re-printing the Van Rijn-Falkayn books
in an omnibus editions. I'll certainly buy those. My paperbacks have
that tiny print.

Poul Anderson's 'Centaur Like Friend' (Adzel by name, a Merchant Planetologist and devout Buddist) is, in my estimation, the basis for the Virushi.

I love Puppeteers. I even included a Puppeteer rip-off in my early Metamorphosis Alpha games. I should dig out my Ringworld game and see what sort of stats it gave them.

Ringworld is probably my favorite SF book. If not that, The Mote in God's Eye is.

Well I agree now that Ringworld is my favorite too but I just read it so have to wait a year to be objective. I think they are one of the best thought out and unique races in Science fiction. You explain it to someone and they think you are crazy but after reading about them they make perfect sense.
