How about a parasite that uses psionics? The creature attaches itself and uses its innate psionic ability of mass suggestion to trick others into thinking it is not there.
The creature's habitat is a semi-arid / semi-subtropical planet with a pronounced wet and a dry season.
The creature sucks the blood of the victim and grows up to 6 times its size. It starts out roughly the size of your hand.
If the victim gets too many or suffers a sepsis, s/he will die. If only one attaches and there is no ensuing infection/allergic reaction, the parasite well swell to 6 times its size drop off and look for a dark moist hole in which to lay up to 50 eggs. The eggs hatch into pupae in 2 weeks or when the conditions are right (wet & warm).
The creatures usually live on a large Ox-sized lizard that co-inhabits their world.v The ticks usually fall from the fat fleshy leaves of the indigenous flora and lodge themselves under the lizards scales for this reason the ticks tend to seek out areas of the body that have an anatomical similarity.
Non-psionic victims have a chance of noticing these creatures, but often they will just feel fatigued, slowed, weakened and "fat" in the area where the tick has attached itself.
Characters with psionics can detect the ticks if they win a "psionic-contest". The ticks have only a weak to moderate, but none-the-less innate psionic strength.
ST=2-6 (depending on size) EN=1D6+2 IN 1-3
Once every so many seasons the creatures "swarm". Swarming always coincides with favorable conditions = warm, wet weather & an overpopulation of Ox-lizards. During swarm periods the population of ticks reaches 12-20-fold its normal size. Dangers for humans are most extreme during Swarm periods, although attachment/infestation can occur during any contact with ox-lizards or during excursions in the wilderness among the forest of xerophytic succulents.
I realize that the low intelligence of the psionic-tick is contrary to their innate ability of psionic mass suggestion indeed this is a mystery, but there are many paradoxical things in the universe.
The creatures have a rudimentary intelligence of animal nature, but are cuddly like a tick is, not cuddly like a cat.
