A friend of mine is looking to start a PBEM group to help develop an ATU. From his description, he appears to be looking to run something similar to T4's Pocket Empires, in which the players portray world leaders and attempt to expand their homeworld's influence to build an interstellar polity. The background is similar to the end of the Long Night, in that the worlds of the region once belonged to a long lost empire, and now worlds are reaching once again for the stars, but the universe is not the OTU, so there's a lot of freedom to explore, expand and influence the direction of the setting.
