Playing T5

Is anyone playing T5? I mean an actual game, not building stuff and designing starships.

I'm wondering this largely because the question of supporting products has emerged and whether that is viable depends mainly on whether folks are playing games with T5 as their ruleset, or playing around with T5... if that makes any sense.

participated in a couple of play tests in beta, but most of us are on hold until we get the Holy Book into our hands and can dissect it.

Me, I do. Well, I was till folks schedules went to pot. Still have interest so I am probably going to have to spit the party. Also, I am pretty sure that when I do that I am going to change up the style since all my guys are high powered, long term Careerists.

Haven't had a chance to run a Personal Combat yet, but I have run a couple of ACS Combats. Missiles rule all in those cases.

Mostly, I am still messing with the guts and building my sandbox.

I'm thinking, Martin, that it may be too early to ask that question. Not enough people have their books yet. And, the tome is so large, it will take some time to digest it once people do get their books.

If I like what I see when I get my book, I'll probably run a game, but I don't expect to make that decision until months down the road.

Now, I'm probably a laggart on that time frame, but I think many take some time to understand what appears to be a very crunchy system.





EDIT: My next Traveller game will either be CT or T5, depending on what I see in T5.

Once I get either of my two books ordered or my T5 replacement disk for the playtest beta version, or the second T5 CD - I will know whether or not I can entice another person I know who loves Traveller almost as much as I do - into playing the game using T5 rules.

For what it is worth? When I saw your SECTOR FLEET book, I picked it up simply because it had your name on it - just as I did when I picked up the reference book you wrote on small arms. The really sad part is, that at least one of my players does not want to leave the comfort zone of GURPS that he has enjoyed since 1986.

What have we played in the history of Traveller?

CT - yes
MT - No
TNE - Yes
T4 - Yes (but hated it)
T20 - No (no one likes D&D and that ruined the brand for us, even if it had been a good system, which it may well have been
MgT - No
GT - yes (repeatedly)


T5 should prove interesting.

I haven't played since Beta -- a long time ago. I tried a Mongoose game with some local enthusiasts a year or so back, but we failed to form a lasting game.

Building a new gaming group is hard, but I have high hopes.

Once I have mine I plan on giving it a go. There are a few folks here who like Traveller, and my eldest son does as well, so getting going will be more a matter of schedules than interest.

I'm definitely planning on running a T5 campaign. I'm reading the BBB now, trying to figure out this new system (haven't played Traveller in a long while and it was CT). I have my first scenario in mind and a group ready to try it.

One of my players used to run CT and he's going to be a hard sell on a new edition but I know I'll win him over!

If folks are up for another PbP, then I will run one. However, as I stated earlier I am thinking of running in my ATU, the Permatic Imperium. The link leads to the blog where I have been busy building a Sector sized sandbox. If you all are up for it, I can do it again.
