This is a call for worked chargen examples, aimed with players in mind.

If you don't want to generate a character, then I've posted Captain Jamison; if you've a mind to, pop over and read through it. Once updated, he is a candidate for the Player's Guide.

UPDATE

Craig has contributed a Noble, and pendragonman has contributed a Rogue. Between the three we have a good cross-section of different chargen styles.[FONT=arial, helvetica]

Back in the day...

There is a Daarnulud up in the T5 Private Forum somewhere for an example Noble. Light on description but I have a good chunk somewhere on an external drive.

I didn't want to presume to volunteer him, but if you offer, I'll take him. Does the text need editing?

Probably.

Most likely, plus I need to pull the descriptive elements though they might be in the Noblity folder in my DropBox Library.

But since the old man is out in the Herald supplement, then sure might as well get more exposure. :)

Noble is an interesting career, so it's good to have him as another example. Jamison himself takes up Soldier and Merchant if I recall -- both of which resemble standard forms of Traveller chargen.

We probably need one of the outliers then. Rogue or Agent, perhaps.

I present Mika Suzuki, Rogue. Could someone double check the chargen for compliance?

Her genetic profile should be:2656XX, not 2656X6.

As a suggestion, I would also list species and gender in the first group of statistics underneath the name.
Also, the Fame-score is not enumerated.

Fixed. See attached.

On the other hand, since genetic profile has to do with parents I am not sure how you can be born into a different social standing than your parents.

Yes, but remember that the point of the genetic profile is that it represents a single die (1D), which is the genetically inherited part of your trait, as opposed to that which you personally developed. Or, to put it another way, when you roll 2D for a physical stat, 1D is nature (that you inherited from ONE of your parents), and the other 1D is nurture.

Social Standing is not inherited this way; it is just equal to whatever your initial 2D roll is (representing the Social Standing of your family - and noted in your initial stat bloc).

Review of Mika Suzuki, Rogue

Skill Lists

I like the way you've listed the skills, with (Knowledges in parentheses). Is there a reason you didn't put the knowledge level in side the parens? Wouldn't it look a little leggy if you had two knowledges for a skill?

Engineering 4 (Power Plants)-1 (Jump Drive)-1

Nah, I guess that's ok.

I also like the no-hyphen skill levels. Clean up the skill receipts in Education and Term 1.

Birthworld UWP

I assume you've separated the elements for readability, but it's less obviously a UWP. In short, there was some momentary confusion, which might be magnified to someone coming to T5 from, say, CT.

Rogue Controlling Characteristic

Rogue re-uses a single characteristic for the entire career as a Rogue. Or has that changed in T5.09?

Biography

Finally, I like the biographical explanation for her career. It puts flesh on the bones.

No no reason other than rushing to finish. Fixed. Education and Term 1 cleaned up.

Fixed to standardize with the rules. I personally like the physical characteristics of a world (size/hydro/atmo) separated from the populace derived stats.

No, not changed. I am used to making Marines. On the other hand, it is darned hard to fail at your schemes if you pick a stat with a C, and I think there is potential errata out to fix this. Unless every Rogue is supposed to be the Stainless Steel Rat.

Biography

Finally, I like the biographical explanation for her career. It puts flesh on the bones.

With fixing the CC issue, it makes the third scheme "succeed", so the butler must be the reason she could not continue in the current career...

Indeed some rogues are right out of a Harry Harrison novel, and when I pointed out the "abusability" of it, Marc said that was the intention!

I can redo Spacer Dalthor Et Madera (from a prior post in January 2014) under the current rules. The original generation included Varan genetics, and psionics.

He was originally done under T5, and needs an update using T5.09, I just hadn't started that process yet.
