Other (related) game info in Wiki?

With the current interest in two possible PbP games of Space: 1889, I wonder if it would be permissable to add some info on that setting to the Traveller Wiki, or would that be too confusing? Perhaps make it a subsection, like a campaign wiki?

There could also be copyright issues: Marc still sells 2300AD, so I assume that material would be OK for inclusion, but it appears that 1889 belongs to Frank Chadwick and Heliograph, so I don't know whether they would approve, or not.

I would not have an objection to creating a campaign namespace for other, non-traveller, campaigns. Let me know if you want a setup.

How well has the existing campaign wiki of your current campaign working? Do your players like it? Use it? want more features? Ignore it?

I'm not sure how much of the published background and rules for Space:1889 you were planning on including into the wiki. As long as you are not planning on copying sections of the books (rules or background) into the wiki, this isn't a problem.

Timerover has told me that he wants one, but the campaign does not have a name yet as he hasn't decided which of his six offerings will run. He will be the GM, but from what he said I expect I will be putting in a lot of the content for him, leaving stubs for him to add "GM only" notes as needed.

The campaign Wiki has worked out great for me. It helps me keep a lot of info organized as GM. I refer players to stuff in the Wiki frequently. I know at least two of them read it.

I did a bunch of work on it in October, not so much since then. I want to finish the Touch Map project for BlindGuy and others first, but I was stumped on a database issue until recently. Now I think I have that figured out, but lost all work to date in HD crash, had none of it in recent backups so far as I can find. Shouldn't take long to rebuild, since I've done it once already.

No problems there.

Right now, I am working on some custom background for the campaign, that I would greatly appreciate being able to post to a Wiki rather than posting here or emailing everyone. I would like the possibility of posting news updates, sort of like the Traveller News Service in the JTAS, about current happening on Mars, the Earth, and elsewhere for the players and other interested parties to read. I see the Wiki as a good way of doing that, rather than continually posting here.

As a late-comer to the campaign, I have greatly appreciated it.

I was planning on using the Wiki for custom information, and simply reference the appropriate rule book or supplement rather than re-typing it. I plan on keeping posting of published material to a minimum.

When you get your campaign design to the point where you want the campaign section set up, let me know. It's as simple as creating a page to get started.

If you want access to the more restricted Referee namespace for posting GM specific (and hidden) information, please let me know what your wiki user name is.

Wiki user name?

And I would have to think about hidden information. Not sure that I want to use it in that way. I was thinking more for general information that is not covered in any of the books, or something in the books that I want the players to look at thoroughly.

Wiki user name?

Wiki username -because it is a separate registration from CotI, even though hosted on same servers. But you can re-use your CotI username etc - that is what I did.

Registration link is in upper right corner of most Wiki pages; I think it says "Create Account" or something like that.

If you look closely going through the SBRD Wiki, I have links (mostly just stubs with nothing on them) for GM Notes on most of my pages for NPCs, Worlds, subsectors, etc. This lets me add notes that the players don't see, for stuff they don't know about yet (such as the current kidnapping situation, all outlined in my GM notes on Nexus system - good thing, or it would have all been lost in HD crash last week...).

(I also have stubs for players to add their own notes, but to date no one has used them. :( )

Greetings Admiral SpaceBadger, sir. Thank you for the explanation. Wiki registration I can handle, need to think about the rest.

The way it worked on mine for SBRD, tjoneslo set up two pages: one for general access (players etc) and one for GM only. I built the rest of it from there.

I think he needs you to sign up for a Wiki account ("Create Account" at the upper right corner of Wiki pages) then tell him your username (can be the same one you use for CotI if you want), then he can create the pages for you.

If you aren't real familiar with making Wiki pages and inter-linking, just tell me what you want to get started and I can make some pages that you can then fill in with text, then I can show you from those how to extend to additional pages.

EDIT: Also, what name do you want him to use for the namespace (sub-Wiki) for your campaign? Mine started off as "SBRD Reavers' Deep" which was too much to type repeatedly, so I asked him to change it and it is now just "SBRD".

I need two things:

1. The name for your campaign. This is used as the base page in the campaign name space. As Space Badger suggests, pick something short.

2. You need to register in the Wiki (separate from the CotI registration), which will require answering one question about Traveller. If you can't figure out the answer, please post the question here and I'll give you the correct answer.

I have registered for the Wiki under Timerover51, but I have not received a confirmation email as yet.

The name of the campaign will be T51 S1889

I've seen your registration, it is complete and usable at this time. I'll need you to confirm your email address at some point, but currently the mail processing on the wiki is not working correctly. I'll let you know when it is fixed.

The name of the campaign will be T51 S1889
Here is the root page for your new campaign. Please feel free to edit and add pages as needed. If you have questions, I'm usually around on the boards or more frequently on the Wiki, you can leave me a message on my talk page or on the wiki forums.

I may need some help adding pages. I need a page for the American trading station at Thymiamata, and some more pages for background so as to cover the Dead Canals and inhabitants thereof.

There are two simple ways to add new pages to the wiki.

1) Go to the main page. In the center of the page there is a text box and a button "add new page". Enter the name of your new page in the text box. In this case you will want to enter "Campaign:T51 S1889/Thymiamata" and press the button. This will take you to the new page to allow editing.

2) If you are editing an existing page, add a link to the new page by enclosing the page name in two square brackets. e.g. [[Campaign:T51 S1889/Thymiamata]]. Save the page you are working on. The updated page will have a red link to your new page. Click the link. this will go to the new page to allow editing.
