=ot light speed but light crafts...not what ya think

In the days after 9/11 there were many things that filled my mind.
Greatfully, others had a chance for better thoughts.. One of them, which I discovered later in reading research briefs was a study on the effects of jet contrails on planetary temperatures. Oddly enough, this was just one of the many things brought to my mind while reading the article below:

Very interesting when placed side by side with Dr Jordin Kare's methods in recently winning a "step" xprize for space elevators.*

* Granted, Jordin uses and alternate technology to win and disagrees that the proposed technoology can ever realistically be created. His intent was to prove his own energy transmission theorys witha practical application that could also meet the demands of the xprize test(IE: His climbing robot could complete steps required while proving his theories by using power transmitted to it from the ground). For the record(so Jordin does not yell at me) I am not proposing here that Jordin Kare believes in or supports the belief in teh ultimate success ofthe Space Elevator concept)[Happy Jordin?]

Nothing OT about this...if we can get to LEO by means of ground based lasers, we can make use of fission plants as launch facility power systems...

Yes...But I want it when "I" can enjoy it!!

Nothing like being selfish :D Besides, this is a kind of craft my wife would ride in!!! She does not like those missile delivery systems. Even any of Burt Rutan's current projects.
