Neworld Sector on TravellerMap

ovka

SOC-12
I know this sector is in flux right now, so perhaps it will be fixed soon, but I just wanted to point out what could be an error (though not necessarily).

The world Dienabach is in the interstellar state Dienabach Grupen. The subsector (P) is named Deinbach (e and i are switched, and a is dropped).

Cheers,

Baron Ovka

I think "Deinbach" is incorrect here, since the name "Dienabach Grüpen" appears in Solomani & Aslan. Funnily enough, the previous version of the sector also had a typo in the name of that subsector, naming it Dienbach Grupen Subsector.

Ah, the typo that wouldn't die. Dienbach is correct; updated files will be sent to Joshua. Thanks to the Baron for pointing this out!

Actually, I think 'Deinbach' is more likely to be the correct spelling. That's an actual placename in Germany (aka 'Grossdeinbach'), and it is the name of the Subsector.

Of course, after three thousand years, who really knows ...

Both the Dienabach Grüpen and the Dienbach Grÿpen (how those are related, I don't know; possibly due to careless publishers) use "ie" instead of "ei", and Garnfellow (am I correct in thinking he is Randy Dorman, the creator of the reviewed Solomani data?) said he made a typo; so, the "ie" is probably canon, even if it doesn't match the actual German spelling.

Dienbach Grÿpen

According to the wiki (as well as the fanzine "Into the Deep") Dienbach Grÿpen is a two-world pocket empire "peopled" by the Derfi'gassak who were too xenophobic for contact..

Dienbach Grupen is a subsector, not a polity, and most likely not related.

... is it too early to think this hard?:coffeegulp::coffeegulp:

Garnfellow has sent me updated data but we've been waffling on the easiest way to share data and my complaining made things worse so I have an update but can't use it. Hold tight, it should be corrected soonish.

There are multiple entries related to Dienbach/ Dienabach. Use the following list to determine the exact library data entry:

Dienbach Grÿpen is a xenophobic two-world autonomous polity within the Third Imperium located in Reaver's Deep Sector.

Dienabach Grüpen is an independent interstellar polity of eight systems located in Neworld Sector.

Dienbach Grupen refers to a Dienbach Grupen Subsector located in Neworld Sector.

Dienabach and Deinbach have now been removed from TravellerMap. All are now spelled Dienbach. There should probably be a disambiguation page for Dienbach on the wiki to distinguish between Dienbach Grÿpen, Dienbach Grüpen, Dienbach (world) and Dienbach Subsector. Dienabach and Deinbach should both go away.

Thanks for your hard work.

Shalom,
Maksim-Smelchak.

The most recent change to the Aldebaran Sector on TravellerMap.com moved the world Daedalus from 0707 to 0606, Merak from 0606 to 0310, and Nereus from 0310 to 0707.

I only noticed this because of the following JTAS entry on the wiki which places Daedalus in hex 0707:

http://wiki.travellerrpg.com/TNS_1120_(alt)#Date:_063-1120_.E2.91.86_Daedalus_.28Aldebaran_0707.29

Presumably, this came from JTAS Online.

I will double-check, but I do not think the original JTAS entry actually specified a hex location for Daedalus.
