Global magma ocean seen on exoplanet located 35 light-years away
Researchers have identified an entirely new class of exoplanet: a "sulphurous world" with a permanent, deep magma ocean.
This is a world covered by an ocean of magma, and a thick sulfur dioxide atmosphere which keeps it molten. This is either a young system where the planets are still coalescing or a more unique process where this world stays rock-melting hot for a long period of time.
