New campaign setting idea:

Hello to one and all,

I am a old time Traveller GM, been playing and GMing since Traveller first came out. I have collected almost everything I could ever get my hands on for the game and alot of resources outside the game to help add flavor to my own campaign settings. I have belonged to many different Traveller user groups over the years including the HIWG as the Verge Subsector Analysist. I have always set my campaigns within the Verge Subsector, and have managed to flush out many of the star systems there with great amounts of details.

Now the point of my post, I have decided to create a new campaign setting using the d20 system mechanics, and using elements from a couple of different and related games. I will be using; Traveller, Metamorphosis Alpha, Gamma World, Stargate SG-1 RPG, along with much detail taken from Barsoom.

The players will be set up as Traveller characters that are colonists on a 200yr sleeper ark to a New Earth. They are the lucky 13th colony ship to be sent. The first colony ship would have arrived there over 65 yrs ago.

Now unknown to the humans, is that some 5000 yrs ago this system/world they now call "Earth II" was a outer colony outpost for the Krull Empire. They suffered some great fall and are most gone, but their still remains many different elements. Like in this system a Robotic Defensive force. Now the world was a site of a major battle in the distant past with multiple followup battles. There are all sorts of elements and etc on world and in system to encounter, explore, and etc.

The Krull, are actually the Red Martins from the Barsoom novels. They fought a war with the Green Tharks (4 armed giants), and their great civilization collapsed. Now they had Stargate technology that linked many cities and sites on worlds, as well as linked many different worlds together too. If one were to go to the Krull homeworld, it would be alot like Barsoom.

My goal for the players, is to have them work together to defeat the Robotic defense network in the Earth II system, explore that world, discover the stargate system, then begin to explore. For me a perfect sized group is 5 players, and one GM.

My question to all is what do you all think of this campaign idea/setting?

Not bad. Kinda harks back to "Golden Age" sci-fi, which is always cool. Also good to know that yer usin' some of the best (better?) modern sci-fi.

I'm a sucker for any Burroughseque (a word?) story line, and stargates as in the movie or "Tunnel in the Sky" by Heinlein are VERY cool.
Stay true to your original premises (no FTL drive?) and it should turn out pretty good.

Another note, I perfer to make the PCs in my games to have to go into "Cyro Sleep" before using Jump drives. Yes I make jump systems take months to go between systems, instead of hours. I perfer a group of players to spend lots of time within systems, that is why I go into super detail for each system that a group might play within. It is slightly different than standard Traveller, but lots more fun for all.

Spending lots of time in a single system or a small cluster of systems such as a trading group of say, four systems is a great way to give the players lots of characterization info and invite some heavy duty role play (something I like) with the players actually seeing the results of things they did four or five sessions ago (and maybe forgot about). This kind of campaign is great if you have the time to get into NPC reaction and motivation (another thing I get off on) and gives you an opportunity to develop "real people" NPC's that the players will recognize on the street so to speak.

I'm a fan of wormholes as well, but I prefer mine to be artifacts of the universe, not dwellers within...

Put the wormholes out in the outter system, and it can take days to weeks to get there... and hit the hole with the right vector, and "POOF" you're there! And you've another 5-20 days inbound burn!

Haven't yet run games in that vaariant, but it's based off of Starfire (wherein it can take days to cross a system despite 10PSL constant speed drives.

Your setting sound, shall we say, interesting. Not one *I* would want to play, but I have some players who might like it.

Thank you all for your comments! ;) I have run a number of different campaign themes over the years. The best was I had the players find a "Alien Drive system" that I call a "Fold System", it was taken from the Battle Tech seriers of cartoons. It allowed the players to chart a starting point and stopping point back into normal space and off they would go. It did absorb alot of power and if you were off in your calculations there were all types of problems. Basically every Fold was a adventure in of itself..LOL

!!! It was alot of fun, and they ran with it for about 1.5 yrs, playing once a week on a week-night.
