Names

I'm prity well looking for names that would go well for travler charecters. Solomani would not be very hard, but what about our other two human species, and non human species? Any ones know of any resources on the net that has some example names either fan created or pulled from published material?

Mostly looking for a name for the Vilani marine without battledress mentioned earlier.

GURPS Traveller has a list of Vilani first and last names. IIRC Jim Vasiliakos' Galactic program ( http://elektrasystems.net/~jimv/gal.htm ) has a Vilani name generator (or maybe just a list of Vilani names).

Tom Foster and I volunteered to vet submissions to the CoiT Library Data from time to time. Hunter set up a special category that allowed us to edit and activate the library data articles and called it 'Imperial Librarian'.

A useful tool for this is the Vilani Language Word Generator:

http://www.geocities.com/Area51/Rampart/2555/vilanigen.htm

A very useful place to look is James's Traveller Word Generators. There are radnom word generators for words in Vilani, Zhodani, Darrian, Aslan (Trokh), Vargr (maybe Irilitok, but probably Gvegh), Droyne (Oynprith), Hiver (Ithklur/Gurvin), and even K'Kree. Plus a world UPC decoder.

I found the above link by Google searching under "Aslan word generator". Another is "Phill's Nifty Javascript Traveller Word Generator".

http://www.yarranet.net.au/phill/fudge/traveller/wordgen/

Probably more useful for Solomani types but you may find this useful. Uses US Census data which you can also download there.

Random Name Generator

Also this Word and Sentence Generator showed up recently.

Evidently "Dlr'ifrchtienshich plenzeblkriebrierbrrp" is valid Zhodani.

HTH,

This thread is downright fun!!! great idea!!

Excellent! A post on names. I always wanted to see this, but never asked. I come up with names in a lot of different ways. Let's take a villain I created.

Baron Moro Vel

Ok, that's a play on a couple of things. I think I first grabed that when I was watching Wizard of Oz. Professor Marvel (a.k.a. the Wizard). Ok, also did some research on some other fictional villains. Frankenstein, Dracula, Island of Dr. Moreau. Moreau = Moro. Baron Von Frankenstein. Tried to make this guy SOUND evil. Baron Vel, to me, doesn't sound like someone I would want on my tail.

Here's another one:

Sir Dameon Toth

Wanted him to sound slightly British. Watched a documentary and one of the Brits' name was Damien. Toth is actually someone's last name out of the phone book. Sounded cool.

Making a name for Vilani, I think everyone covered, but if you have access to MegaTraveller Referee's Companion, there's an article on Alien Languages on page 92 and a Vilani Word Generator on page 94.

Later,

Scout
