my dumb questions about T5 (only played mongoose)

Nerhesi

SOC-10
Ship combat:

Damage is based strictly on mount size? Isn't there modifier or even a base dependant on the weapon type first?

Range - ok I get ranges but how do you determine range between two moving spacecraft that are constantly changing range between themselves at the end of every step. There is no "zero point" really...

Thanks - sorry, I'm used to much better organized RPGs and I'm determined to all hell to master T5 - so I'm going to need a lot of help :)

Super quick...

As I am out the door in a few mins I will keep this really brief.

Yes, Damage is by Mount. Except for Missiles which are rated according to their Size. Provided I am recalling correctly, I don't have time to look right now, but my memory is pretty good on these matters.

Range may or may not change (getting from S12 to S7 is going to take a while), but from what I gather most combats will be taking place at AR or S7. I will try and drag out page numbers and citations later.

Can you provide an example of two craft trying to fight - one wanting range 6 and one wanting range 7? Both with M drive values of 6 for example.

And hold up... are you serious regarding weapons? disintegrator? Beam laser? Wet-toilet paper gun... damage is strictly based on mount size?

Yep. Range is a function of Weapon Type and Hits are a function of Mount size. But don't panic weapons are still fairly different based on their types. Type also decides what skill you need to use them and if they can be used in anti-missile mode.

Don't forget armor. Weapons of one type or another can be defeated by the various anti-layers or coatings.

So Damage is based on a lot of things, but Hits are a function of how big you can build your wet toilet paper gun. :D

Thanks, I think... Now someone is going to try pulling that one off. That or a potato gun. Fries with that order...

Potato gun.....

...first start with the Rail Gun, Range S=7

...then select Large Bay, 100tons, +8Mod, 30Hits.

...finally genetically engineer the potatoes to have a high iron content.

And there you have it; the SuperSpud Gun

The really funny thing....T5 has rules for all the above :D
