Multiple Careers

So....I've had T5 for awhile now...but just now gotten into the nitty gritty of learning the ins and outs of it. (CT and T4 GM from way back in the 80's)

So here is my question.

If a character is forced out or choose to leave a career and decides to start a new career....shouldn't the muster out benefits be resolved for that career at that time instead of visiting the benefit/money table at the end of all careers?

Here is my rational.

Some mustering benefits may help or hinder the character's ability to join or succeed in the new career.

Such as a Scout getting a Knighthood on mustering out....now can automatically enter the Noble Career field....which would otherwise be blocked.

Your thoughts?

If you leave one service, you muster out for that service. If you join another service, you muster out from that one when it's over too. Real world example: you serve 20 years in a union manufacturing job and collect whatever pension you get when that's done. You go to work at a non-union corporation at the management level and earn a second pension from that when you leave. That's two sets of "mustering out" per se.

I have always had my players muster out immediately after leaving a career for one reason or another. I go so far as to have their pensions begin immediately and will calculate how much they have collected during future careers to begin as a nice starting sum of credits.

Same goes for noble/scout land grants. those are issued possibly mid-career and begin accruing money at the end of that term, even if they do not muster out at the end of that term.

It does add more math to an already not-simple creation process, but I find it encourages my players to make their characters a bit older, which I like. Thus far, only one player started the game near retirement, and she was an absolute blast. Anecdotal evidence says yes!

Totes!

I too favor a Muster Out at end of Career not CharGen for much the same reasons most here have already stated. It just seems more logical and real.
