MT Starship design for CT

Providing detailed design layers in support of Traveller is a strength of Traveller.

The closest thing to CT is MT. MT is the direct descendant. When I look to improve CT, I look first at MT.

What I'd like to know from you is what parts of MT can be used -- perhaps with modification -- as a layer under CT's starship design.

Take Book 2. It's a set of finished components for small starships. I would like it to be the output of MT's starship design rules. Since the MT experts are in this forum, I'm asking for opinions and suggestions.

What parts of MT could be used? What would need to be changed? And how can I use this resource in a way that causes the least amount of change to CT Book 2?

I doubt Book 2 ought to be slavishly adhered to; on the other hand, there are some key defining traditions that I think really ought to be preserved: for instance, the Type A Free Trader ought to have a Jump Drive A, Maneuver Drive A, Power Plant A, Model/1 computer, and cost around MCr37.

As it happens, the ship design system is the one thing I don't use from MT. I've always felt it's overly complex.

Quite so; however, as a component design system it would be useful. For instance, the sheer number of accessories available to MT designers is awesome, including low tech, high tech, and (I think) some alternate tech.

There's no alternate tech, it's all part of the OTU.
What it does give are the only OTU hard stats for extreme stellar TL equipment so that ships can be designed all the way up to TL21.

Funny thing, I played STRIKER and even designed some items from it.

But I never could get my mind wrapped around MT ship design, even though it is said that is derived directly from STRIKER. This is from someone who would spend hours with High Guard. Go figure...

I would say computer rules would be the first thing to import. Book 2 works, but it is unrealistic. See elsewhere for extensive discussion on this topic.

I think Book 2 computer volumes could disappear without affecting the game at all.
