Located on the tarmac of the star port, you see a module cutter sitting with a prefab structure along side it. In front of the prefab is a desk under an awning with a tired and rather gruff looking military man. You see he has the stripes of a Staff Sargent, but his unit patch is missing. Scatters of papers adorn the desk, along with a girlie mag that he is currently browsing.

He looks up as you approach.

Skeelie, a small, wiry young man, looks around nervously, "Yeah, umm... you're hiring, right?"

He glances over his shoulder, and adds, "For an off-world gig, right?"

Skeelie's appearance and clothes are fairly nondescript, but the duffel on his back betrays the distinctive size and shape of a gauss rifle.

The rugged, old staff sargent looks up and sizes you up. He grunts and sits back in his rickety chair.

"Yeah, if you qualify, we're hiring. As for off planet? Well, we go where the job takes us. Not much here on Rhylanor to keep us busy, but other planets, other times, gives us the opportunities we want.

"Are you qualified at all? Any military experience? "

He spies the lump in the duffle and raises his eyebrow.

"Can you strip that ACR for me? Gives me an idea of your skill level."

Code:
roll a d20, subtract your dex mod and skill level from it; subtract the total from 40 to get your speed in seconds.

"Yes, sir. I can shoot real good. Regular army 8 years, spent some time in Recon school."

Skeelie grabs the ACR and confidently starts to strip it. Just as he begins, somebody across the starport yells something - Skeelie jumps and drops the weapon.

Mumbling curses, he picks the rifle up and tries to finish the job as best he can.

OOC: d20 roll of 2, Dex 9 (in MGT thats +1, not sure what it is in T20), skill level is 3... 34 seconds?

"Not my best, sir." Skeelie says looking downcast.

"ok, just nervous? Let's see how you do putting it back together. Try not to have any pieces left over. "

A slight smirk crosses his lips just momentarily.

Code:
same rolls as before (try to beat a 2 this time)

Skeelie nods and starts to rebuild the ACR. His movements are quick but deliberate - not rushed.

Code:
d20 = 13 + 1 for Dex + 3 for skill. 23 seconds.

He hands the weapon back the the sergeant with a brief almost imperceptible grin.

"Decent enough. Ok. here's the skinny. We'll assign you the rating of E3 (Lance corporal) and place you in Fire Team Bravo of squad 3. Check your stuff into the barracks back there and get settled in. We lift off at 1500 hrs."

"Thank you, sir."

Skeelie manages to not quite run on his way to the barracks.
