Lucifer class

I was looking at the Lucifer class Destroyer Escort (from FASA's Adventure Class Ships Vol 1) and thinking: the Chrysanthemum and Fer-de-lance class Destroyer Escorts are both 1000 dtons each, this Lucifer class is 400 dtons. Is the Lucifer class really a Destroyer Escort, or is it more of a Close Escort (like the Gazelle)?

As designed, when written, it was indeed a Destroyer Escort. However, this was in the context of the J4/4G, 1250Td Kinunir-class being a Battle Cruiser -- a front-line combatant.

It was a Small-Ship Universe. LBB2 maxed out at 5000Td; ships that size were only possible at TL-15, and were only capable of J2/2G maximum -- again, to be clear, this was at TL-15!

High Guard allowed far larger ships, and changed everything.

The naming of ship classes in the canon Traveller Universe is fairly inconsistent acress the board and

is just one example as the class type names have changed over the course of the game's life and various incarnations of the rules. The Traveller Wiki (https://wiki.travellerrpg.com/Destroyer) lists Destroyer Escort (DE) (100 to 2,499 tons) so the range is inclusive, And then again, to add to the confusion (or my confusion anyhow), https://wiki.travellerrpg.com/Escort is listed as a separate supraclass, with
Close Escort (EC) (300 - 600 tons) as one of the subtypes. Ironically, this roughly parallels RL ship class definitions in the sense that they're a bit munged up and generally get called whatever the local DOD thinks will get funding out of the local funding source. IMTU, we ignore canonical class names for this reason and overlaid our own class names, which break more or less cleanly around the number of sections in the ship (in MgT1).
