Islaiat (Homeworld of the Yslai) in Reaver's Deep Sector

Hey Josh, Don, and T5SS Folks,

I happened to notice that the Trav-Map doesn't reflect that Islaiat doesn't reflect that it is the homeworld of the Yslai sophont species.

*** Why is that? Are the Yslai non-canon? ***

Thanks.

Shalom,
Maksim-Smelchak.

Yes, it is because they are non-canon. They were apparently added to the Traveller wiki by someone named Mitchburg.

That will be determined when more work is done on Reavers' Deep by someone developing it. While the Reavers' Deep Sector Sourcebook (Cargonaut) says it's a minor race on Islaiat, that's all it says, and at the time, RDSS wasn't even canon. By today's standards, the RDSS doesn't go into enough detail, so if someone does revisit it, that should beef them up.

The wiki also says that the Yslai are "a sophontic race". I have no idea what that means.

The wiki Yslai page is clearly labeled non-canon. I won't go into rating the race as written, but I've added it to the T5SR as non-canon.

Sophontic is probably an adjectival and/or adverbial form of sophont.

"Sophontic race" is thus most likely a shorter way of saying "race of sophonts"

Yes, but they are on the minor race list because someone at one point put them there. I think Hans used it as a joke on JTAS Online (explained in the following issue), but someone took him seriously.

I miss Hans.

May he rest in peace.

Maksim-Smelchak.
