Is the Traveller 5 Core Rulesbook FGMP-proof?

Looking at my nice new BBB, and comparing it with my 5th edition Hero System rulebook, this question immediately sprang to mind.

For those unfamiliar with the 5th HS rulebook legend, here's the YouTube video covering the subject under discussion:

In comparing HS5th to Traveller 5th, I had to upgrade to the genre-appropriate weapon for comparison.

Anyone have a spare copy handy and access to a Man-Portable Fusion Gun?

I don't have an FGMP, but I do have a Ruger P89... I mean an Autopistol, 9mm

If someone has a spare T5 book, I'll test it at the range, and take pics and video and everything :D

There is a TL8/9 laser (starship turret size) on a USN ship currently deployed off the gulf. Does anyone know anyone in the US Navy? Perhaps a BBB could be stashed on a target drone and tested for thermal damage? :D

I too also have the Traveller HS books and I like the time line for that, BUT I thought that T5 was more of a generic Traveller tool set to run a traveller like game or SciFi game in a space setting and the flavor is being left up to the specific GM.

Oh, this was just an updated satire of the jokes that were going around the Hero System fandom at the time Hero Systems "Fifth Revised Edition" Rules (aka 'Fred') came out. The rumor of the rulebook being thick enough to stop a bullet came to a head when a couple fans went out to a shooting area and actually proved it. With the T5 rules being thicker, I just had to raise the ante a bit, so to speak.

Love the Traveller Hero rules myself, just had to buy em when they came out a few years back. And yep, T5 is pretty much a generic set of SF setting rules, with a sprinkling of the OTU info here and there to serve as examples of things that can be created with the rules.

Speaking as a non traditional GM, my focus has always been on Roleplaying within the Traveller game. I have many house rules and have used them for 25+ yrs. Basically my skill based system is based loosely off of Basic Roleplaying D100 system, and I believe in more skills than fewer. Also I use my own Attack vs Defense combat system that once again is based off of a D100 percent system

I have been playing Traveller for 37+ years now and for the last 25+ years have been using my own In House rules set. To each their own, but also I like Roleplaying as my games true focus. The game mechanics only are their to help aid the game character and plot lines. Having fun is the real focus and key to success like I have had over the years.

As a long-time Hero System and Traveller player/GM, I had the exact same thought! This thing's a beast! Of course, the Jump Drive makes up for it in portability...

I use a slightly different drive system, mine is called a "Fold Drive" which folds space and makes for a much faster and farther travel system than the standard Jump Drive system. I also use slightly different fuel systems, as I feel the standard Fuel system used by Traveller is a tad bit outdated for a society that far advanced. Actually there are a couple of different fuels that are used and they all create lots of power but each one has it's pros and cons.

It all comes down to roleplaying and getting into character and having fun while a player is actually playing the game. My total and constant focus as a GM.
