Huron Class 50,000 dTon Bombardment Cruiser

Scarecrow

SOC-14 1K
I thought you all might like to see this, as Michael's given me permission to post it.

It's an image I've done for the cover of Avenger's 2nd 1248 book. Based on an original drawing by Bryan Gibson from Quicklink's TAS 7 'Fighting Ships'. It's the Huron Class Bombardment Cruiser. Weighing in at 50,000 dTons (small for a navy vessel apparently) it measures 200 metres in diameter and 46 metres deep - some 15 decks.

The background is by Michael and the model, rendering and post-render fannying about (that's actual technical terminology) is by me.

Enjoy

Fantastic job, as always, Crow!

Just one question, why are the fin/dome thingies radially-oriented rather than parallel? If the ship is partially streamlined for fuel skimming, those would set up some nasty vortexes.

Stats are in TA7.

50,000 dTon

24 Meson Bays, 24 missile Bays, point defence laser array (4*5 triple turrets).

Minimal armour, slow moving (G2 rather then G4) but fleet jump capable (J4).

250 staterooms with an expected crew of 450.

Its a bombardment cruiser. What more can you say.

Just so's you know, it's 200m across and 46m deep - assuming a gentle convex curve underneath. I don't know what Bryan envisaged in his original drawing - That's some 15 decks top to bottom. That's a lot o' deckplan! =)

Hi !

Well, I dont mess around with a 1,5 square scale right now

First I made a rough layout with the excel sheet in order to distribute all the dtons:

HuronLayout1.jpg

Resulting in a rough cut:
HuronLayout2.jpg

The square size in those pictures is excactly 11,05 m * 11,05 m, respresenting a cube of 1350 m3. That made thing a bit more easy.

Then I transfered the stuff to CC2, starting with the center/base deck.
In order to make it easy again I set the grid to 11,05 m, too.
Drawing a few lines resulted in:
HuronCenterDeck.jpg

The drive sections will appear as large machine halls, with ceiling 12 up to 22 m high (e.g. the center section of the power plant, 42 m wide, 100 m long and 22 m high).
There should be 10 major crew accomodation sections distributed in the ship.
The 100 dton weapons bays will be located circular at the decks rim. Here I included some kind of circular maintainance path.

Anyway, before I will get lost in details I thing its better to finish the rough view

Regards,

Mert

TL 9-12 powerplants are 3 dTons per EP
TL 13-14 powerplants are 2 dTons per EP
TL-15 powerplant are 1 dTons per EP

By HG, which seems to have been migated to every other Traveller system...

T20 uses a slightly different Powerplant sizing.

2.5 dTon (1.5 plant, 1 fuel) at TL9-12
2 dTon (1 plant, 1 fuel) at TL13-14
1 dTon (0.5 plant, 0.5 fuel) at TL15[**]
2/3 dTon (1/3 plant, 1/3 fuel) at TL16[**]

Close enough to be certainly from the same HG family

[**]TL15 and 16 are written the other way around. 1 dTon of plant uses 1 dTon of fuel to produce 2 EP at TL15 and 3 EP at TL16.

Thanks folks.
Guess I have to reduce PP size then....

Unluckly I've got around 6000 dTon left now.
Does hull armor take volume in T20 ?

Or could some supply the T20 design specs (the component tonnage) ?
