I didnt know wether to put ask here or in Random Static. Can someone tell me which edition is better #1 or #2??? is everything (mods) compatiable??? I have been looking and thinking about buying the set but i need info. I dont want to make an expensive error. i could use any and all help and suggestion about Twilight 2000

i also noticed on ebay the the same mechanics are used in several different games... dark conspiracy and cadillacs and dinodaurs, are theses any good??? i am very interested and any good suggestions will be appreaciated

thanx Trader

I have version 2.2, which is compatable with TNE, so I don't know anything about the others, just that 2.1 is close enough to 2.2 with minor errata.

I got the Deluxe edition, which has a bunch of cards for troops and trucks and tanks, and maps, and scenarios on cardstock. As a matter of fact, I dug it out the other day, and am setting up scenarios now, after finding some house rules on the net that got me started on it all over again. It has a great set of encounter tables and miscelleania, IMHO.

I'd go with the latest version. I use it to good effect with TNE rules and Balkanized worlds in general.

...How do you feel about dinosaurs?

Seriously, a friend had some Dark Conspiracy stuff, and it wasn't bad by itself, but it went all over the place - if you have people that want to hunt demons of all shapes and sizes and from all different dimensions, with no overarching plot provided for you, then DC is the game for you. If the referee lost focus, it could quickly become a bug-hunt of the week type game, or the hunting bugs of the week, depending on the relative power of those involved.

C&D was based on a comic book popular at the time. Rebuild civilization, archeological expeditions to the long-lost ruins of the 20th & 21st centuries, Cadillacs, Dinosaurs. Again, it depends what grabs you.

Twilight 2000 v1 is not compatible with versions 2 and 2.2, although there are conversion notes in the v2 books.

Which version is better is, well, a tough question. V1 is pretty good, but there are a few things which might get under your skin if you happen to be a small unit operations buff.

v2 brings in a system which GDW used for all of its latter games, sort of a forerunner of the d20 system. They are hard to find but there are a few mods out there for v2 and most of the sourcebooks were updated.

v2.2 tightened the whole system up to par with the rest of the GDW line and became the in-house operation system.

I personally like v2.2, hard to find though. v1 is being released by FarFuture Enterprises and lumps the core rules and several mods together. I purchased it and was pleased to see it was good quality, but, it is still v1 and not updated in anyway.

Cadillac’s and Dinosaurs is one of my favorite settings. I’m told it is based on an old comic book series. Dark Conspiracy is a scaled down Cthulhu style setting. It’s not bad if you like adding a horror element to your modern game. There are several horror RPGs out there and some are pretty good. That said, if you are looking for a full collection they would be worth considering.

Good Luck

I just won a copy of V.1 of T2. Would someone please post all the v.1 supplements that were published and in what order. also which suppliment have maps, rules expansions, seperate sheets. i need the info cause i am going to bid/buy other mods on e-bay and i want "compleate" mods thanx

Question, Would anyone be interested in hearing about my campaine? and the area/background it covers? This game has "grabbed" me like no other in a very long time, i an actually EXCITED about it...do you all remember the feeling?? its FUN!!
anyway i have a Zillion ideas going thru my head!!
does any one want to hear them??? it would probably be a long disortation full of typos, but i would like all the feed back i could get.....

Hiya TJ,
Looks like most of your questions have allready been answered though I'll chime in too because I've ref'ed both v1 and v2.
I prefer some of the game mechanics from v1 such as the percentile skills but from memory vehicle combat was done far better in v2. V2 is also very similar to Trav TNE. Infact I have a (falling to bits) copy of original print TNE (not the mark1, mod1 version) wherein you can see whole sections lifted directly from the T2K v2 book

As for the modules, the early Poland ones were great. I think Pirates of the Vistula had a pull out map which was the best of the lot but my memory is questionable on that. Ruins of Warsaw was ok as a following adventure and had a macro combat system, though I never used it. The Black Madona was pretty good too and some other thread which talks about the modules had it rated fairly highly. I never played the US located modules but I eventually bought all of them except Howling Wilderness, which atleast one of the members here frequently raves about mostly for it's rules one what to expect/implement in comming years as your campaigns progress.
It's a great game whichever version only we, my players and I, wanted some sci-fi and TNE came along just when we wanted it.

twilight original we played back in the ole army days in the barracks while in the 5th ID (yuck) we got a kick how the background pick of the worst unit to be in got to be the forgotten ones. at this time we also did a roll yourself deal@ tests and 201 files etc... then simple advanced or current date to the end with an added term for the war.
2.2 was definately better to continue with but we kept the old attribute gen. BTW any got a copy of the old chargen form i lost mine.
I honestly didn't know they existed these so called MIAs

Greetings and salutations,

I played v1 & v2. I saw no need to get v2.2 until I heard it was compatible with TNE. Still haven't gotten it yet.

As far as the modules go, The Free City of Krakow and the Pirates of the Vistula, the modules dealing with southern Poland, and Going Home were my favorites. TFCoK and PotV had maps that covered two pages for the area they dealt with. Going Home had a pull-out map like the one that came with the box set. It also gave info, TO&E for a lot of units.

If you can, get a hold of The RDF Sourcebook. My players thought they were going home.

Instead, they ended up in Iran/Iraq. Imagine the US force's reaction when the unit showwed up with an Afro-American Ranger (NPC), a female Russian Reydoviki (Ranger)(NPC), a Russian Spetnaz (who later betrayed the group and sided with the Russians), a Canadian infantryman, a German panzergrenadier, and a civilian doctor. They only had a problem with the Spetnaz and the arrogant German. They were kind of upset with the Afro-American until they learned he was married to the female Russian. She was gorgeous!

House 2.0/2.2: Biggest difference is the Task System.
the 3 level, 1d10 task system was the basis of T2K 2.0; the GM screen included the conversion to 1d20 5-level task system.

CG is very similar, and if you rip careers into TNE, just use the TNE skill rates, not the 4/term rate of T2K/DC

Twilight is good for more detailed army characters.
DC was excellent for more civilian careers, many of which are directly stealable, a few need cascade conversions.

If running a DC or T2K game, the other is a very valuable resource for the other side of CG.

If you can, get the 2.2 versions if you want the Task system and/or useability with TNE.

I do, however, prefer the T2K 2.0 over 2.2

If you see a 2.0 TNE with a GM's Screen, the GMScreen includes the rules update.

Pretty much any of the earlier modules can be converted by using same difficulty labels, and rounding off Skill/10 to get V2 skill... but you WILL need to do some conversion work.

V1 is a very different set of rules, but it WAS a good game, if limited in CG.
