Has anyone tried Quicken for their Merchant Ship economics?

Merchants always seemed like a pain in the aft engines to me just for the Math.

Has anyone ever tried Quicken to keep track of the bills and such?

Or better yet, QuickBooks, which is designed for that? But much more expensive.

They are both excellent Money Management programs. I have no doubt they would keep your ship up to date with finances. And have a bit of immersion having the computer calculate everything for you.

Anyone?

that would really make Traveller's "Accountants In Space" meme closer to reality.

I think it would really depend on who is playing - my current group does not want to deal with that level of detail, so I have NPCs handle it all behind the scenes for them. Helps that then I can inject what I need into the game. Back in college, where I was part of a pretty avid Traveller group, we did track it all but that was in the 80s, so no accounting software (though 1 player did design an Aslan font for his dot matrix printer). Being 40+ years ago, not really sure how we tracked it - probably in a notebook by hand.

Hum, Years ago I had a Excel Spreadsheet for that...

Do you want to repost it?
I had one also, but not really suitable for anyone less confused than I am to use. Basically just another tab on the spreadsheet I had where I mostly designed ships. I just listed all the bits (buy price, commissions, sell price, fees, etc) from the book on their own line and summed them at the bottom. I am not an advanced Excel user when using it for its intended purpose. Weird, twisty stuff, I can do.

I would, But, it was done in Excel 2.0 under MacOs 7.5.... The machine with the SCSI hard drive is long gone, and I believe the Floppy Backups are buried under 30 year of kipple in the garage.

If I come across that box I will post it. Note the same box has the backup files from the GENIE Traveller section as well.
