Geonee

Looking for a source for population distributions...

The T5SS puts Lancians, S'mrii, Graytch, and a lot of others on a lot of different worlds...

But the Geonee get Shiwonee and not much else. If anyone knows any sources, please point me at them...

Traveller Digest #11 has information on Shiwonee.
P.14 has a world write-up for Shiwonee.

From TD#11, p.8:

The Geonee Cultural Region is rich in Ancient artifacts, but not quite as rich as believed by Dr. Krenstein. The lmperium has verified Ancient artifacts recovered from only Lagna and Shiwonee; the Geonee themselves claim that all eight of their worlds were originally inhabited by the "Geonee": that is, the "Ancients".

One interesting note is that all eight of these worlds have extensive asteroid belts. The Geonee claim that these are the remnants of worlds destroyed in the Final War, but most Imperial scientists dispute this, while admitting that the frequency of belts is, statistically speaking, unusually high. The Shiwonee system has three asteroid belts; Shiwonee itself is quite active, seismically, with quakes being common and 44 active volcanoes dotting the globe.
From TD#11, p.9:
. . . Lagna, the most highly populated system in the Geonee Cultural Region, . .
There are only 11 planets in Shiwonee Subsector with Asteroid Belts:
[Selruke]
Rigaal
Hiponee
Dreva
Lagna
Stenardee
[Zetra]
Prindee
Shiwonee
[Thun]
Bisks Planet
Selruke, Zetra, and Thun seem fairly distant from Shiwonee compared to the rest.

I was sort of hoping for population distributions so I could add GeonX values to the T5SS.

Other than GeonW for Shiwonee and Lagna, I'm reluctant to give values to the rest. Still digging for clues.

Hi Don,

I have been slowly updating the Wiki to reflect all of this data. I asked about Geonee awhile back and came to the same conclusion and research as others.

Being that I have codified and made this information available at a central point, you might want to consult with me when you come across these inquiries. If I don't have it, I probably got it from someone else or should update it anyway.

By the way, I have looked through nearly all of the primary Geonee sources and I don't think any of them ever conveniently list all the worlds out. They only give the clues and then make us connect the dots. Typical.

I have also updated numerous other entries such as MegaCorporations with all available worlds on which they do/did business or had facilities. I'm working on Aslan clan worlds as well.

One of the most important reasons to have a functional database such as the Traveller Wiki is to make this kind of thing easy.

I have made so many updates at this point of this nature... Things such as:
  • Tlaukhu lists
  • Worlds with Ancient sites
  • MegaCorporation locations
  • And dozens upon dozens of other groupings...

It's pretty darn handy.

Perhaps we can team up or combine efforts in the near future to add even more functionality and usefulness to this shared and very crazy hobby of ours.

Shalom,
Maksim-Smelchak.

Unfortunately, the Wiki is not a source, just a reference. Unless the wiki sends me to a source, it doesn't do me any good at all.

I agree. That's why we need to update the sources as well.

But, for original research or extrapolated research, there is no source. It's the researcher. It's original. Its someone like Hans Rancke. RIP.

And, in a lot of cases, no one else has ever done that before. Ultimately, I want to research and learn some pretty odd things such as:
* How many worlds there are exactly in Imperial / Aslan / Vargr/ Zho / K'kree / Hiver space / etc.
* How many worlds hold Imperial Aslan
* How many worlds have Bwaps
* What the economy of the 3i is in Mcr... or Bcr...

In other words, I'd like to see many of the details of the OTU fleshed out as well as possible.

And many of the original resources never codified many of these things.

* For instance, Thomas Jones-Low does some amazing things with Traveller economics...
* Josh Bell built out the Traveller Map...
* Zho Berka has organized some awesome universe development...
* Some guy named Don made the best timeline ever for Traveller!
* Many others have done really cool things too.

We really ought to find a way to better combine our efforts.

Shalom,
Maksim-Smelchak.

Ok, I went to the wiki... and was disappointed.

The source it claims for the Geonee is T4 First Survey, which even Marc says isn't worth the time.

So, going back to Traveller's Digest #11, I'm hoping for the definitive list of worlds in the Geonee Cultural Region... and get two for sures, Shiwonee (Massilia 1430) and Lagna (1029). Now, based on names, I'd grant Prindee (1330), Ashavakuna (1131), Stenardee (1130), Dreva (1028), Hiponee (1027), and Rigaal (0928).

But I'm not finding any source for including Bisks Planet (1630).

Looking at T4 First Survey (because the wiki sends me to it), I get nothing. Not even in the Referee's Data, which calls the Geonee Homeworld Asadug. And looking in the T4 errata for First Survey (the fixed data released after IG folded), still nothing.

Which has me asking why the Wiki references T4 First Survey...

Two are stated in Travellers' Digest #11: Shiwonee (Massilia 1430) and Lagna (1029).

I infer others based on naming: Hiponee (1027), Dreva (1028), Stenardee (1130), Ashavakuna (1131), and Prindee (1330). I'm vague about Rigaal (0928) because that double-a has a Vilani feel to it.

So that gives us seven?

It's the clues from TD#11.

It says that all 8 worlds have asteroid belts.
* When one looks up the subsector, there are only 11 of the 24 worlds with asteroid belts.
* By inference and original research, one can deduce (...make an educated guess) which 8 they are.

Maksim-Smelchak.

Rome wasn't built in a day. The Wiki is very useful, but not a magic bullet and it could be much better if we all put some of our knowledge into it.

Those are the only two for sure, that are explicitly named.

Now, based on names, I'd grant Prindee (1330), Ashavakuna (1131), Stenardee (1130), Dreva (1028), Hiponee (1027), and Rigaal (0928).

TD#11 mentions that all eight worlds have asteroid belts. That's the big clue. The reader has to put the rest together.

Looking at T4 First Survey (because the wiki sends me to it), I get nothing. Not even in the Referee's Data, which calls the Geonee Homeworld Asadug. And looking in the T4 errata for First Survey (the fixed data released after IG folded), still nothing.

It has T4 First Survey because it mentions it and the references are often comprehensive although sometimes mistaken as Jim Kundert often points out.

I'm going to start posting in your other thread, so we don't keep bouncing back and forth.
