For Don (for now): Squished Errata

Daddicus

SOC-13
Don, I've created a compressed errata file similar to the one I did before. I put it here: https://www.dropbox.com/s/hga7aiozx7d9hqr/SquishedErrata.xlsx?dl=0

Don, if this is helpful, I'll continue to do it. If not, I'll send it to the Kinunir.

If you like it, I'm going to add two features right away: The page number column will get numbers, and any posts that refer to more than one errata will be split into the various entries.

However, both of those I'm going to do by hand unless (or until) I can figure out a way to code it. So, I'm going to request that people use one post per errata and include the page number in the subject of the post.

So, if you like it, I'm going to add a post every time I update the file, telling people where the latest summary is.

Finally, if you like it and also think others can use it, I'll add a post to the errata thread every time I update the file. That way, people don't have to read through all the previous posts to see if theirs is already mentioned.

I can't speak for anyone else but I like it. Is the Page# column for which page on CotI the post is on or which page of the book it refers to? If the latter then we can sort on that to group all the issues of a particular section together... which would be super handy. Either way, thanks for doing this and I hope you continue.

It's for the page number in the book. Not all posts put it into the subject, so I'm going to fill it in as best I can from the body.

If Don approves, I'm going to put a filter the columns so you can sort and filter in Excel (if you have Excel 2010 or later and actually download the file, rather than reading it directly from Dropbox).

By the way, even though I titled this thread "For Don", I'll take comments from anybody, until and unless he vetoes it.

I updated my procedure to do 10 posts at a time. The file now contains the first 70 posts. I'll update it each time a page of posts is full (when I notice, that is).

I updated the first 10 posts to show page numbers. I also created a new column. It's used when there's an extremely long post. I put the original into that column and then shorted up the usual column. The new column is twice as wide, so the text ends up not being so tall.

This is helpful, and I'll not be looking at it until tomorrow afternoon (6/22).

I'm trying to finish the Mongoose review pile before Marc officially returns...

Cool!

I have updated the file to:

  • Added posts through #80
  • Add all page numbers
  • Break posts with multiple errata into pieces

I added page numbers where I could find them. But, I had to add 3 special cases:

  • Unknown means I couldn't figure out what the page # was
  • None is for Don's initial 2 posts; they're not actually errata
  • Other post is a post that refers to another post (side conversations)

Also, I list only one page number when a single errata actually refers to multiple pages. This should make it easier to sort. The page I chose is what I thought the main thrust of the errata is intended to correct.

Where I broke a post into multiples, I duplicated the line, and then edited the main post column (F) into the component errata. The original text is in the first duplicated entry.

Also, the post number is now the old number with a letter after it for each sub-post. For example, post number 68 is now 68a and 68b.

NOTE: Because of the way Excel sorts, these multi-errata posts will all appear at the top or bottom of a sort on the post# column. I'll see if I can fix that in a later enhancement.
