If he's a scout allowed to do surveys, how come he's only SOC 3 (and EDU 5)?
You might also want to see the "Who are we" thread.

Because except in the case of Imperial nobles Traveller rules pretty much ignore the correlation between occupation and social level. Apparently it's as relevant as planetary habitability is to population size.

Thirty four skill levels with a combined INT+EDU of 17?

Thirty four skill levels in five terms?

All three physical stats above average and one at D?

Seems we need a Munchkins forum in addition to the Adventurers one. ;)

I cannot see all those tech skills with an edu of 5... the only way he makes sense with those physical stats and that edu is as either a "street rat" who picked up some useful skills and is along as "supporting crew" (doing primarily combat & physical work) or as a "barbarian"... a low-tech "native scout" hire to aid in surveying "wild" planets and interacting with other "low-tech" societies.

The only way he can possibly have all those tech skills is through lots of training & schooling... whether through formal schools, tech schools, or massive amounts of OJT... either way his edu HAS to be at least 7-8 for most of those to make sense (I know the rules rarely have a limit stated).

The total number of skills/levels is troubling... I don't know what the later rules say, but CT specifically limits total skills/levels to int+edu.

34 skills/levels in 20 years is absolutely incredible... I've never come close to that even without a total skills/levels limit in any practice character I've generated in 29 years of playing Traveller!

The group I played with in the 1980s felt that was too low, so we used int+2edu... but that's about as far as I would feel comfortable with.

I used a variant that worked very well. Skills were divided into physical, mental, and 'in-between' skills (I never came up with a good name for the third category, but it was skills like mechanic and engineering). People were limited to Str+Dex physical skill levels, Int+Edu mental skill levels, and a total of Str+Dex+Int+Edu skills levels; in other words, 'in-between' skills could be counted against either the physical or mental skill level limit.

Don't forget that the CT Navy prefers its Officers to be of a higher social class.

I like that. How about 'manual' as a name for the third set?
