Duchy of Oasis

SOC-11
Was wondering if anyone had ever done anything with this. I actually got some friends to consider Traveller (don't know what they are missing) and one of the ideas I have is set it in the Duchy in a Firey Class CE instead of the Type T and run them until the Virus hits.

Might even take it past that into TNE Era and run it with modified Pocket Empire Rules but that's a big MAYBE.

There are several rebellion era adventures for Travellers called up into the Duchy resevere forces dealing with pirate threats.

I remember a challenge article on the duchy in the new era and even an NPC listing for a TAS reporter in the new era.

It always looked to be a good base for a rebellion era / TNE campaign

The article on the Traveller wiki is woefully incomplete. Only reference is to a mention of the pre-Imperial predecessor in TD21. Somebody ought to do something about that. I would, but I'm not sure I have the relevant issues of Challenge.

I will dig out the challenge mags over the weekend and post details if someone can put them on the wiki

Is there any reason you can't put it on the wiki yourself? It would be much the same work and it would avoid duplication of effort.

never put stuff on wiki - lack of knowledge

It's pretty easy to figure out, but it occurs to me that much of the duplication of effort will be obviated by the cut-and-paste function, so do what you feel most comfortable with. I'll have a look at it when I get back from holiday (I depart in one hour -- YAY, HOLIDAY!)

here is the Duchy of oasis stuff I found in the challenge magazines

Challenge 75: Oasis in the New Era Article describing the duchy in the new era with its history and two subsector maps.
Challenge 75: Undercity. A new era adventure in the duchy exploring a vast arcology.

Challenge 66 - NPC Anton Cagllarl - A TAS reporter in the Duchy of Oasis during the Rebellion.

Challenge 62 - Into the Gap - a rebellion era naval adventure in the Duchy involing the crew of a patrol cruiser in a pirate hunt. Also includes library data on the duchy.

Is the Into The Gap adventure the one where the players have to spend time creating a huge normal space vector before jumping to the suspected pirate base because the base is in a system whose star is moving through the region at relatively high velocity itself?

Yes.

If you're planning on running the players through Virus and into TNE, you might want to take a look at my post about emergency equipment.

http://www.travellerrpg.com/CotI/Discuss/showthread.php?t=33009

The Fiery's gig has three Emergency Low Berths for the crew. It carries 2.2 tons of fuel. If the ship gets shut down by Virus, the radioisotope power source will keep the low berths going for up to 4 years, and the ELBs can go pretty much forever on the solar array provided you're in a habitable zone orbit around the local sun. Neither system is likely to be affected by Virus.

Shield hasn't logged in for six months. He did post this:

Is there anyone with access to those Challenge issues who could make up a wiki entry about the Duchy of Oasis based on the articles? I'll transfer it to the wiki if necessary.

More information added

I've added more information - most useful information in Challenge 75. I'm nor sure how much I can add before it it gets legally dicey for copyright reasons.

I once ran a Collapse campaign in the Unity of Promise. The players were a Special ops team for the Unity, involved in a wide range of sneaky stuff on nearby systems. The news and rumors of Virus grew, although mostly just as wild speculation.

It was only a short campaign, which ended up with the full blown Virus "invasion" of Promise. My players managed to escape, but only by misjumping. They had to get into lowberths, awaking in the New Era.

I probably would've used something heavier than a Fiery or Patrol Cruiser. Then i could explain away the long sleep cycle for a handful of survivors. I did it for an NPC with the Kinunir class configured for a long haul ambassador role carrying high end emergency low berths.
