Does anybody have a copy of...

I'm looking for copies of "Dwarves in Space" and the CT adventure "Green Horizon", originally published as articles in Dragon Magazine back in the late eighties.

Hmm, quite sure I have the first but the second doesn't ring any bells, which is odd because my collection of Dragons is extensive and pretty complete for the 80's and 90's. Anybody have the article index on cd handy and could you provide the issue numbers? Thanks.

I'll have to find the box they're stored in before I can say for sure about the conditon but they should be good or better. If I find them I'll give you first crack if you want to post your e-mail, or you can move this over to the Duty Free Shop forum if you want to handle it there.

Hey there. Old Fart Game Geek here....

I know that Dwarves in Space appeared in Dragon Magazine in the range of issue 50-60. It did NOT appear in Issue 51 (Exondias Downport and Jitterbugging), as I have that one. But Has/WoT/TSR/<Insert current clone here> has released the entire run of Dragon up to Issue 250 or so on CD Rom, if that is any help.

Now, Green Horizon appeared in White Dwarf in
one of their EAARRRLLYY issues. My fading memory says it's pre-issue 20, so good luck there. In that same run of issues was a really kick-butt one-page article on generating agents for the Imperial Secret Service. That article was in WD#8 and Green Horizon might be with it. Insofar as finding it, this is gonna be a haunt-the-used-book-store kind of mission. Odds are this kind of obscuria would never appear on E-Bay.

Hope this helps you some.

"Dwarves in Space" is a three-page article by Roger Moore in February 1983's Dragon 70 (sometimes it's handy having the 250-issue CD set that can search them all in seconds
). Two pages of notes on converting AD&D to Traveller, with Dwarves as a focus, and one page of tables with ranks, skill tables, mustering out, aging, dwarven weapons, etc.

I have the CD set. It's much easier to search through, as well as having everything in one place. Well worth it for me at least.

I don't know if it's still available - I bought mine a couple of years ago for around $20. Even though I'm not much into D&D, I still find it useful (especially the earlier years, with lots of non-TSR coverage).

So nobody has a copy, eh?

I know where to look, but even the original authors keep sending me into the netherworld of lame "Have you tried...?" suggestions.

Yes, I've tried. There too.

Would it take a few dead presidents to loosen up the will of a few hoarders out there?

Ah, perhaps I misunderstood your original posting then, or you missed my reply above. Anyway I did finally locate mine just moments ago, I really need to lable things, my memory is'nt what it was ;) Its in fair shape and I would part with it reluctantly since its part of the collection.

edit : the magazine is in fair shape, not my memory, or apparently my use of language today

If E-bay's an option there's a couple there right now.

$3.00 starting bid

$0.99 starting bid

Of course shipping is extra. If you want to make me an offer I can't refuse

post it here or in the Duty Free area.

can help you get a copy of green horizon. have the white dwarf it was published in and am prepared to send you a copy.

I'm not a collector, so a "Mint" quality item is not a requirement, nor is the original item. What would it cost to scan/fax/email a copy?

(This might turn into something involving copyright issues, though...)

Post your email address and I will contact my FLGS which was plenty of Dragon magazine articles in stock.

In Canada, this would not break the copyright law, so if you are a US citizen, promise not to take to NAFTA tribunal.

I do not want to risk litigation for myself or this service (Citizens of the Empire / www.travellerrpg.com) by soliciting copies of material, for pay, that are not legally in the public domain.

This is a FAST way to get yourself banned here. We will not put up with anyone using this forum to pass along illegal copies of copyrighted material.

May be, but here it will get you banned from these forums.

How about Dragon Number 64, containing the "URP" based Robot Design System? Where could I get that? Or at least the Article? (Maybe even the Art) I was a fool to part with it way back when...

Blast!

Greetings again Baron, I'd say check the links above to the e-bay listings, one of them had many others of that vintage, just click "view sellers other items" or do a search for "Dragon magazine" you'll get a lot of hits, narrow it down with the tabs along the side, check in "games" (I think) for the most likely results. There's also a few game stores/used book stores online and real life that still have some, or yeah, even make me an offer. It doesn't have to be creds, I'll take trade, local currency, bright stones and soft yellow metal, spare parts or fuel for the old ship, whatever.

But really people Hunter set up the Duty Free forum just for such barter so lets move it there eh?

Is asking for original paper Dragon Magazines, now illegal on this list? The solicitation of copies would be illegal in both Canada and the US, save if it would be transmitted by electronic format.

New US law does not permit electronic reproduction but does not prevent the sale of copyrighted material without the author's permission. Whereas, in Canada, electronic copying is permitted so long as it does not violate fair use. That is why Napster was legal in Canada but not the use.

So Hunter, what is the violation in soliciting for paper or items that do not violate fair use?

Untill the PIQ answered with a "I'm not a collector, so a "Mint" quality item is not a requirement, nor is the original item. What would it cost to scan/fax/email a copy?" there was no violation after the statement was made Hunter stepped in. Simple as that.
