Do you think T5 will be out while Mongoose has a license?

I always believed what I heard--that T5 would be coming out "soon". But, now, I'm starting to wonder. Will it come out?

Will Marc wait for Mongoose's 10 year license to expire?

It does seem there's been little news on T5 for a long time.

Is it still being developed?

Can we expect it to see the light of day anytime "soon", and by "soon", I mean will T5 actually be for sale in 2010?

Againing seeing how far off first he can get...

I think I can safely say that from the viewpoint as lower Nobility that it is being worked on.

Really, we all just got out our tools and took it apart and now are looking for that funny humming tick that is just there under the edge of human hearing.

Really, it is being worked over by the peanut gallery for sure.

There is some back channel stuff but, that is for behind the screen I am supposing but, to quote one of the best Mods ever (so I if I just boned myself I can not even complain, much. It's a fair cop.), "No dates. Dates get blown too easily."

So, in essence probably, sometime....not helpful? :p I specialize in Bureaucracy, got me a +1 DM on such things.

Marc's goal is still "soon, but no date promised". There is always the tension between marking it "done" while also getting it right. Right in this case means "Marc is satisfied with it", not Don or me or Craig or Bill etc. If I'm dissatisfied with one piece of it, but Marc is happy with it, then it'll ship with neither delay nor change.

Happily, as Don noted, it's not vaporware, so at least there's a target to shoot at.

ISTR that when Marc finishes it, Mongoose is required to release it, IF he does so during their license. So expect it before 2015...

Quick question as while browsing the Far Future site I did not see this...

To order the T5 CD it is $35 USD and it contains the pdf's of the game in development as it is. When the game launches do I need to then purchase a new CD with the finished version? Or will the initial purchase get me the finished version as well as the work-in-progress?

Is it not more normal to buy the product after it is finished?

Tell that to Microsoft. :)

I've played it and the product is more finished than the first printing of Mongoose Traveller was (or the second for that matter, IMO) but obviously the author wants to refine it till it is completely to his satisfaction. Probably the best set of Traveller rules I've seen.

As Andrew said.

The pre-release is first to the impatient, then to the proofreader and constructive critic.

I complain about typos in products. This soothes my inner obsessive-compulsive.

But really, I got it early in order to build starships, and lots of them. I've ended up also building vehicles, weapons, armor, and robots, and started running a game. But I really wanted to build starships.

I suppose that I am just struggling to understand why it is taking so long to "finish" the game.

T5 will be released in the life of the Mongoose licence unless the licence gets revoked. Whether other things except for the main rulebook ever reach print that is less likely.

So, I think, Marc is doing a great job at revising the original Manuscript (which I had serious issues with). But how it will fare against MgT will be more problematic to judge...many old timers might buy it, some newbies (turned on to Traveller by MgT) but I think it will be one of those vintage games that will be forever reprinted but without much in the way of development.

But, who knows MgT with its Open Licence is spawning a whole new interest in Traveller...so who knows...

So does that mean that there is no business plan for future products, like adventures, sourcebooks, huge lists of weapons/ships/equipment/aliens/etc.? I want to see marketing! I want t-shirts that say "University of Rylanor", I want IISS tote bags, I want a Naasirka-branded handheld computer, I want the guys at Bioware to do a kick-asteroid adventure game like they did with Knights of the Old Republic! I want Joss Whedon to direct the TV series! Let's think big!! :D
