Dirtside Traveller

Icosahedron

SOC-14 1K
I followed a link from here and downloaded GZG's Dirtside 2 rules. They look quite good, providing a quick and dirty way of resolving massed combat on a larger scale than Striker - has anyone done a Traveller conversion for them?

In general, one should look at Stargrunt 2 as well before making a conversion. DS2 and SG2 interlock (SG2's Vehicles are designed with DS2).

Also note: there is a tie in in More Thrust for landing craft in Full Thrust 2: 1 Mass=50CSP; SC*4=CS for vehicles, and 4cs=1 man awake, 1 CS per man frozen..

Soo... that being said, and knowing that Traveller's heaviest tanks run about 20Td, and DS2's run about Size 5... that gives a rough estimate of 4Td per size, and that jives nicely with the descriptions. However, 5Td fits easier with the build system.

Note that 1 element of 4-5 infantrymen is costed at 4 capacity; this is about half the rate of MT/Striker, and Powered armor are double. If trying to recreate imperial craft, I'd suggest using 2 capacity per fireteam instead, and 4 per PA...

Plasma Gun (DFPG): Reduce cost and range by some factor, and the following damage.
At Close: All chits; Red double value.
At Medium: All Chits.
At Long: All CHits at half value
Against infanty: Red Chits only at any range

Thanks for the info, guys. That link looks very informative.

I've now checked out the Stargrunt download too, which seems to be closer to the Striker scale, but a simpler and faster play.

Darn it! I can feel another rules upheaval coming on...

Sort of a plug....

Check out www.stargrunt.ca after pulling down the Stargrunt rules.

I haven't posted my Stargrunt Traveller conversion, because I'm still wrestling with some of the issues in trying to maintain Traveller-esque balance, but there's some other good stuff there. I just put up an After Action Report on an SG-2 game which was Broadsword:The Raid from the classic supplement.

I do know of some other SG2 conversions, but they just basically say "plasma gun in Trav" = "plasma gun in SG2" and don't worry about trying to keep a Travelleresque balance. For all that, they're still quite workable.

I wouldn't say SG vehicles were designed with DS rules. The reality is there are slight differences. Some systems in SG don't exist in DS and vice versa (although I've hacked a fair few of those into SG at one time or another). They're close though. DS just labours under a mis-impression that a point system can work... *grin*.... whereas SG admits balancing scenarios requires judgment and point systems are always flawed and exploitable.

GZG's 25mm (and 15mm and 6mm) United Nation's Space Command Hardsuits look 'reminiscent' of Traveller Imperial Marines from the Grenadier figure sets. Denizen/Ainsty's 25mm or Dark Star's 6mm Ventaurians (with helmets, since without they have yoda heads....) have the familiar clamshell face of the Zho marines. If the need is great, I can probably cobble up a picture of each line, but you can probably find pics online.
