Determining GunMaker Special Effects

In T5.10, Book 3 page 107 gives special effects for weapons by Type, Descriptor, and Burden. For example:

Rifle: Has recoil
Accelerator: No recoil
VHeavy: High recoil

But there's no rules for how these are determined when these things are combined. For example:

Vheavy Accelerator Rifle

One would think that this would still have no recoil, but how does one determine a priority order here?

VHeavy turns recoil into high recoil? But does not modify no recoil?
Accelerator turns recoil or high recoil into no recoil?

I'm updating my GunMaker app for T5.10 and struggling with this.

Great question! I never considered that possibility in my experimenting with GunMaker. My first thought about that situation is that the no recoil and high recoil act like adders (or subtracters) from a base recoil. So, using your example, I'd probably have it work like this: start with a base of recoil for the rifle, recoilless makes it no recoil ("subtracting 1") and VHeavy makes it recoil again ("adding 1").

Having said that, I'm not sure what you'd do in the situation of a VHeavy Laser of any kind. There's no prohibition for a VHeavy Laser like there is for Heavy. But would making a laser very heavy actually add recoil? I'd say no, but that gets away from a generalized way of handling and introduces all kinds of exception (to the rules) processing you'd have to handle. :(

Thanks for the reply.

I can see that a Vheavy Accelerator Rifle might have some recoil, it's not like a bazooka where everything blows out the back. And you're right about the laser.

I guess I'll just have to individually handle all the odd cases.
