An open letter to Mr.Miller.

Dear Mr Miller,

to celebrate the 40th anniversary of Traveller I would like you to seriously consider starting a kickstarter for a 40th anniversary edition of the 77 rules.

LBB1-3 first edition, reprinted to the highest possible standard in a metal box.

Add designer notes etc.

Include A1-3, LBB4 and LBB5 1st edition, S1-4,6&7, DA1-6

A map of the Spinward Marches and the Imperium, ship deck plans, the weapon matrix chart from Snapshot.

More designer notes.

A copy of Agent of the Imperium.

I would pledge at least $500

Please seriously consider this.

Mike

I would sign up as well although for a lesser amount.

Shalom,

I few (maybe more than a few) years ago I would have gone nuts for something like this.

However the availability of pdfs and print on demand lessen its appeal, I certainly wouldn't be inclined to pay a premium price for readily available content in a shiny box.

To be frank (chr*st, how I wish someone could be Frank...) I'd rather what time Marc has to work on Traveller be focused solely on T5.

Ok, well now I have to respond...

Well, I'm not THAT Frank, but frankly I am a Frank...

A physical reprint of some portion of the original product line in a nice box would be really cool, though already owning a 1977 boxed set, and having a very limited RPG budget these days, I wouldn't be purchasing it.

What is the appeal of having a '77 set, as opposed to the revised/improved '81 set?

Another option would be several of the '81 books in a very sturdy and quite handsome, cloth-bound slip-case. This would be economically more appealing for those of us who won't have a need for a slug- and laser-proof metal box. A map of the Imperium isn't really a necessity for me as I am perfectly happy with my non-canon TU and accompanying homebrew maps.

Perhaps MWM can get ahold of the folks at the Easton Press, who are very good at producing lavish, leather-bound and gilt-paged volumes with cloth bookmarkers (and with slip-case, ideally) that bibliophiles -- myself included -- salivate over endlessly. :) Just one of those, containing LBBs 1-3, and perhaps a few other bits-and-bobs (like S1, S4, S6) would be an instabuy! I'd put down 100 to 150 USD for that alone.

Another volume with collected Adventures would be nice too. Maybe a poll is in order to assess which adventures are popular enough to warrant the gilded treatment.

Also, a two-volume set of TTB and TTA would be ace.

The 81 set removed a lot of options and introduced some changes that changed the setting.

Also it is not the anniversary of the '81 edition coming up next year ;)

Look at the D&D wooden box anniversary edition for my inspiration for this thread.

Obviously it's early for a true '81 anniversary. That's not what I was aiming at. From a marketing standpoint, it's quite logical that a reprint of the revised '81 rules would sell better -- having been far more influential than the '77 set.
I liked the idea underlying WotC's wooden OD&D boxed set, but they messed up by replacing the cover art and designs and those dice are ugly.

Ok - how about a revised revised edition.

Take the best of both and put back in the stuff they took out.

CT the definitive edition.

I wouldn't over complicate it - just stick to a nicely done reissue of the 1977 edition in honour of the 40th anniversary. After all, 1981 is already widely available even in print (pod of TTB).

Boxed set of 3 LBBs with dice, blank forms and some reprints of choice materials like Miller's article about running leviathan for his group that was recently linked to in another thread.
