Could GT become CT canon?

So I'm back from a bought of severe illness, and am trying to get caught up on projects, and a thought occured to me that it seems to be easier to write for GT as an extension of CT than Mongoose's setup.

If that's the case, what do you think the chances are of GT becoming the OTU?

As a licensee, GURPS Traveller's OTU is, er, offical - but GURPS sets an 'alternate timeline', so its not 'the' OTU.

Remember some time back reading SJG license was up for renewal in 2011 - since announced a reprint of GURPS Traveller Classic: Alien Races 4 this month, I suspect they are still licensees.

As to publishing your stuff - http://jtas.sjgames.com/ accepts submissions for any version of Traveller, IIRC.

Most excellent. Thanks for the reminder, Byte. I'm obviously too lazy to do my own research :)

However the two universes are (supposed to be) identical up to some undisclosed change point somewhere around 1114. Or even earlier, but the gross changes don't manifest themselves until the assasination of Strephon's double becomes the (apparent) accidental death of Dulinor. After that, changes radiate out from Capital, so most parts of the Spinward Marches don't see much change until 1117 (Though in the GTU, Norris leaves the Marches to go to Capital to get made archduke, so there will be some changes stemming from his absence).

GT is canon in the sense that if the MgT author has access to the books and remembers to check them out, or if a playtester tells him about facts drawn from them, the author will quite possibly use them. Otherwise, they get overwritten. But then, other parts of canon get overwritten too.

I guess what I'm saying is seeing as how there's so much dissatisfaction with MT and T4, I'm curious why another reset with T5 and not just go hog wild with GT in terms of "canon" background material.

I'm not quite sure what it is you're suggesting and/or asking, but if you want to write an adventure set in 1105 using GT rules and submit it to JTAS Online, I expect Loren will be happy to publish it. But I think he'd be just as happy to publish it if you used CT, MT, TNE, T4, T20 or any other set of rules. Or systemless for that matter.

And in none of the cases will what you get published in JTAS Online be canon. The best thing you can say for it is that other writers can use your ideas, so there's an increased chance that they will become canon one of these days.

Some of the things I wrote for JTAS was used (with my full approval) in various GT books. :D

And some of my stuff was overwritten because the author liked his own ideas better and it wasn't canon[*]. :(

[*] And some of my stuff was overwritten because the author was unaware of its existence. JTAS Online is apparently too obscure a resource for many, sad to say.

I didn't know there was a JTAS from SJGames. Loren banned me from their forums years ago. Is it a monthly PDF? Or a growing web site that people log into?
