Coreward Vargr states

Just checking here... there does not exist any official information about any of the coreward Vargr states, does there? "Coreward states" here meaning "those located entirely coreward of Lair".

V&V lists a lot of names of the coreward polities and a rough map outline, but they only detail the main ones in the Provence (Lair) sector. The biggest appears to be the Empire of Varroerth which is extends 1 sector corewards (with the Lair Protectorate stuck in its rimward end).

Yeah, I said specifically those located coreward of Lair, so those weren't exactly what I meant. The ones further coreward are just names on maps as far as canon is concerned?

From what I can see in the book - just names, some dot maps and a rough 'demographic map' (Logaksu, Suedzuk and Urzaeng Vargr regions are mostly coreward of Lair).

Nothing else that I know of officially. :(

Well, I'm planning to detail some of them, so it's useful to know whether or not there's previously published material on them. (Thus, unofficially, there'll be more information. :) Eventually, there may be official information, too.)

David Drazul (DeD), who visits this site once in awhile, generated some (all?) of the maps of the Extents. How much, or to what degree, it is considered canon is up in the air.

I have also modified David's data to some extent, although my edits are not on Travellermap, and since David is active, I have become reluctant to go changing things, and am unsure on how to proceed.

In general, the dot maps and empires described from V&V are canonical, while David's data is fine unless there's a reason for changes (and we always have reasons); also there are some errors in the data, which for example Pakkrat has corrected recently.

So there are four, at least: David, you, Pakkrat, and me.

Perhaps we should hold a meeting. I'll send a PM to the other two and ask them to join us on this topic.

TravellerMap credits the Vargr Extents sectors to John G. Wood.

D'oh!

Okay, what can I say, my brain does that.

Still, I know DeD has worked on the Extents. Tuglikki and Provence, for example.

Rob already corrected himself, but to clarify a bit more:

John G. Wood (a.k.a. elvwood) did a project circa 2003 called "Underdeveloped Sectors" which randomly generated sectors for the dotmaps in Vilani & Vargr where there hadn't been other development he was aware of. His plan was to go through the sectors - with the help of others - and review them, bring them up to snuff, etc. Some got a little more attention (details on the site), but most are still basically placeholders.

Note that his work was done somewhat in a vacuum - he has random versions for sectors by Mike Mikesh (Meshan, Mendan, Amdukan) and Jeff Zeitlin (Gashikan, Trenchans, Arzul, Star's End) and even Gvurrdon that have relatively well-known data. Also, he didn't actually publish most of his placeholder data, but kindly shared it with me when I was first putting TravellerMap.com together.

I'm unsure what rules/tools he used to generate the sectors. And remember - most of them are completely uninspected. Given that, I think it's fine to consider them placeholders and retain only positions and allegiances. (And even then, we aren't required to maintain the V&V dotmaps, although I like the density fall-off so why not?) It would really make sense to treat them as uwp:???????-?.

He does not appear to have used the K'kree social rules for those two sectors. It would take more detailed examination to tell if he use the Vargr space mods for government and trade codes.
The stellar mix appears to be no older than TNE rules (no type VI stars and very few type D primaries).

For the record, I have begun manually vetting and adapting to T5 some of John G. Wood's data - updated data for the Taakas Yh'Drak and the Brzeh Council can already be found on TravellerMap, and I'll also update at least some of the other Vargr polities.

Also, Wood's homepage says he used "a modified version of Jo Grant's SysGen code (including alien languages and conversion of star types according to the "Collapsing Worlds" article in Challenge 77)".

Your most trusted news source and Anchor-rat for Net-7 News continues to spotlight a Sector of space that has seen some development but subjected to duplicate data. Knoellighz Sector is currently undergoing some revision by keeping original data, regenerating data for dupliates, correcting incorrect or illegal UWP and applying Mongoose Traveller Trade Codes, correcting stellar data results, applying a 'frontier' fall-off of assets and generally fleshing out polities and individual worlds.

Net-7 News hopes to bring you special reports on interesting worlds that stand out in the five polities of Knoellighz Sector and the Classic, Rebellion, Hard Times and New Eras timeframes.

Your Anchor-rat stands by to share, detail and continue work on this Knoellighz frontier wilderlands just Coreward of Gvurrdon, another viewer favorite.

There was an even older data set for Knoellighz Sector, but it did not survive the HIWG era. I inherited about a quarter of it, mostly the Zhodani edge, when the original HIWG analyst left the hobby. The rest, which he thought he had sent me but never arrived, is probably in a landfill in Kansas somewhere, almost 30 years deep.

Wouldn't it be more useful to update it to T5 standards rather than MgT? I already noticed some differences between those that may impact sector data, such as the inclusion of "dieback" worlds in T5 (see what I wrote here for more information).
