Concealing Armor

I know that this has likely been asked before.

It strikes me that while cloth armor is by and far the most common type or armor seen it also occurs to me that it would seem to be obvious as well (perhaps similar to the armor worn by the marines in halo).

A noble (or similar personage) would want similar armor protection (or closely related) white having armor that was either discreet (slightly bulky) or simply invisible to the untrained eye (such as a kevlar style weave).

Any thoughts?

Ah, you're looking for "Diplo"

In older versions of Traveller, it was body armor that could be concealed under formalwear.

The stats for it are in the playtest material for "The Traveller's Guidebook for Players"...There it's officially called "Light Cloth", and it states that it can be tailored into normal clothing.

Also, if you're expecting laser trouble, reflec goes under your clothes. I'd imagine it's because nobody wants to walk looking like they're wearing tin-foil...unless you happen to be in an old sci-fi movie.

I'd expect that anyone important who needed some protection but couldn't wear visible armor (dignitaries, CEOs, etc) would wear a designer suit made of diplo with a reflec jumpsuit underneath.

Dress uniforms would also probably be made of a kevlar (or better) material.

I use a split system like modern motorcycle jackets. A basic light jacket and pants (worth AR2) that isn't especially heavy compared to normal clothing, with inbuilt reinforcement pockets that when filled push the AR up to 4 (flak jacket equivalent).

Then again I also consider heavy clothing AR1 or so.

It is in the playtest files for the Traveller's guidebook for players though. And I would bet it is in an upcoming TA as well.

The material had better be better than kevlar. Ow! Kevlar uniforms. Wearing that . . . bad, very bad, stiff, doesn't breath right, etc. Yuck.

The TL-15 Magna-Ultima Lifrium&#153 Brand fiber line of armor clothing is far superior to that old clunky TL-7 kevlar stuff.

... and if TL-15 Magna-Ultima Lifrium™ is out of your technical or financial reach you can go the cheap option of TL-10 ArachnidCloth™ synthetic woven spider silk.

I seem to recall somewhere (in one of the various d20 systems) that you can make something more concealable by increasing the cost. Perhaps this will work as an alternate solution? If so, then Diplo style armor is going to cost at least several thousand credits.

</font>[/QUOTE]Subscribing to "The Moot" is a mere $12 per year. It not only supports the website, it also allows you to download playtest files and help playtest the system. Giving you a good first look at things and allowing you to help perfect the system we all love so much. (And the Playtest, Traveller's Guidebook for Players files is well worth the $12, in and of itself.)
Just a thought and my Cr0.02.
