CoDo Traveller or Adventure in The Imperium of Man

I thought the end of the Co-Do would make a interesting setting but the flight times that I remember reading are horrid, you might as well be on a mimi genertation ship. Like from Franklin to Sparta was 8 months if I remember correctly and there was only one planet farther out than Sparta and it was an iceball.:oo:

Ran, you've reminded me of one of my favorite Pournelle stories - I think the title was "King David's Spaceship" - the story of a "rediscovered" planet that had to scramble to demonstrate space flight before it was admitted to the Imperium as a second-class world. I have to see if I can find the box that one is hiding in and read it again.

The CoDo Marines were the inspiration for the Imperial Marine organizations I use IMTU. Along with that I've incorporated lots of other ideas, but never thought to recreate an ATU based on Pournelle's universe. I'm very interested to see how this thread develops and what other ideas I can borrow. Thanks for starting this discussion JC.

Ah, fun on Prince Samual's World...
As I remember, said spaceship used a Pulse Drive to (barely) reach orbit, but that was enough to get it admitted as a Class 2 World (Self Governing),otherwise it would have been categorized as a Class 3 world (Effectively a Imperial Colony world, ruled via a appointed Imperial Governor)...

Some stuff on the M-drives used in the 2. Empire can be found in the first Moatie novel when the two human ships approach the last human colonie before the CoalSac. That has also stuff on the old-style Langston field (The new one is a Moatie development)

The CoDo definitly lacks Grav-technology except Spin as can be judged by some descriptions in Mercenary (The meeting in the CoDo destroyer over NewWashington) and the way their shuttles land.

Using T2K V2.2 or it's TNE sibling, actually including Chargen should work for most since the tech base is quite low. Re-Label the M1 Garant or the M14 "New Aberdeen 7mm" and go for it. Pournelle uses nothing more complex than a FOG-M or a Merlin/Strxy/Copperhead in most stories

As for Ships and Space Travel: Do you really have to invest time in that? I get the impression ships are quite rare and mostly unarmed with few manufacturers and all. The 3 or 4 ships at Sparta during the events in "Prince of Sparta" represent a massiv force and in "Death Heads Rebellion" we get a look at 1. Empire and Sauron main fleets and again they are quite small in numbers

Re:Last Post
That's why New Chicago/Dame Liberty's so important to Bury, in The Mote in God's Eye, but the reason why New Chicago's is important, & why he's there in the first place, is'nt explained until The Gripping Hand/The Moat Around Murcheson's Eye...
Basically, New Chicago was intended to manafacture new spaceships for the next wave of Imperial expansion, but technological delevopments on other worlds i.e Orbital Shipyards, made New Chicago a uneconomic proposition for manafacturing spacecraft, compared to Imperial core worlds.
(Ironically, it's this reason, that saves New Chicago from a major Sauron attack).
