Close Combat Question

Hello!

Can anyone explain to me the rules for Close Combat with a melee weapon?

Personal Combat would, in theory, cover that... except for the fact that striking to hit a person would always start from being an Easy task (based on range). Add to that the reference to a Brawl Task in the Skills section for "Fighting", and I am confused.

Is Close Combat a Brawling-type task, as per skills, or Personal Combat? Either way, it seems bizaare that there are no clear rules for a knife or sword fight in the Far Future.

Confused. Dismayed.

You just run it with the combat system. You can go first and make yourself a target or fight similtaneously. Just make an attack and damage roll. If it helps, think of cover as parrying. But yeah, after all the times people asked for clarification it would have been nice if there had been clarification.

A brawl task is a way to handle a non-lethal violent interaction. Think of that more as a personal that a combat. It's similar in that respect to carousing. Alternately you could think of that as a way to describe a fight with fewer rolls.

If you were going to do a knife fight or a fist fight, you'd do it like a gun fight at range 1.

For me, the Traveller task system and by extension the combat system were tough to understand because they were so simple. I kept looking for complexity where it didn't exist.
