This was designed for beginning characters but hey make the bad guys tougher if ya not.

Prologue
Its raining its dark. A young woman is running, shes scared. She ducks down an alley way and hides behind a trash can. 2 figures run past the end of the alley. She gets up, peers round the corner to confirm they've gone and runs back the way she came. She turns a corner..she runs into something solid..it's a man..in armour..he grabs her by the arms and says "hello sara, I think you an me need to have a little chat don't you?"

Ok how u get the PCs involved is up to u, but basically they get an offer they cant refuse from 2 underworld big cheeses.

A barely controlled mountain of fury, he likes nothing more than to dismember those that have offened his sensibilities.

A picture of control compared to his brother and the brains behind the organisation. He is genial, amusing and refined. His proclivity for despatching his foes with the aforementioned hatchet notwithstanding.
and as many goons as maybe necessary.
Jack is prepared to offer a comensurate award to secure the PCs services but only on the successful resolution of the mission.
U see the Stirlings have a problem. Their sister Sara has gone missing and they want u to find her.
Jack gives the PCs a holocube, showing a pretty dark haired girl (yes ok slightly narcissistic on my part but hey everyone needs to be a princess in need of rescuing), she is at a party laughing and trying to shy away from the camera,
"oh frank stop it, put the camera down" a man comes into the frame, jack "We got this for u"
he holds out a small box.
"oh no guys" she rolls her eyes, but opens the box anyway , she gasps. "oh guys, its beautiful" she holds up a diamond necklace for everyone to see "I love u both so much" She leans towards the camera going out of focus. The picture freezes.
Frank looks choked up.
Jack looks impassive. "We last had a message from her over 2 months ago, she said she was on Jelicea working as a hostess at a casino. We have transport available if u need it. Find her, bring her home safe. If that is not possible, we want the names and locations of those responsible, it will be ours to avenge. Am i clear? If u are successful" he opens a briefcase full of money, "this will be yours."
He turns away, the interview over.
A flunkie Kerrick Vane Rog6, will be your contact from now on.

If the PCs need transport, they are taken to the starport where an aging Scout/Courier waits, the "Midnight Dream". She is crewed by 2 people
Eenri Arris Sct4 Rog2 who acts as pilot/astrogator and
Carly Zeldon Sct2 Pro2 who acts as chief Engineer.
Eenri comes across as a likeable rogue. he works almost full time for the Stirlings and regales the PCs with many happy tales of blockade running, exploring Ancient ruins and battling Zhodani operatives.
Carly is rather more taciturn and seems to spend most of her time trying to get the ship to work.
The ship lives up to expectations.
It smells, it rattles, the lights, toilets and food dispensers work erratically, its a real piece of...work!!
(if the PCs are ultra nosy he's carrying a cargo named as mining equipment, actually guns, SMGs, rifles, ammo, demolition charges but gloss over the trip as if it isnt important)
After a week, the ship emerges from jump arriving in the Jelicean system.

A planet run by Sternmetal horizons, initial reports of substantial finds of iridium are as yet unconfirmed. The only other aspect of any note is that this planet supports a minor intelligent race, commonly called "Crickets" they appear to be nomadic and primitive avoiding contact with humans. There is negotiations between Sternmetal and the IISS to study them as we go to press.

Welcome to Jelicea Down Starport
Jelicea is small, cold, damp and with such a thin atmospere that compressor masks must be worn at all times outside.
There is one main city Oresville dominated by the Sternmetal Ore processing plant just outside town.
The starport is primitive with only a half dozen landing pads 2 of these are taken up by Sternmetal ore lighters and another by a far trader. As the "Midnights Dream" enters orbit a Sternmetal Ore Carrier is just leaving.
The customs check is cursory.
The PCs may note that all the security is handled by Sternmetal equipped to TL12 level (use Hi Tech Guards) They are terse and barely polite, they also appear nervy (sense motive DC10) and keep close eye on anyone brandishing anything larger than a pen knife.
The starport has only basic amenities, restaurant, bar, couple of shops selling stuff like cold weather gear, respirators..post cards at a 20% mark up.

The Starport has 2 gates one for general traffic and one used exclusively by Sternmetal ore trucks. security is lax at the sternmetal gate but the guards know all the drivers and get suspicious of any new faces.

Outside the Starport main gate is the city drag. bars, motels, strip joints, and a Casino "The Gold Rush"
Asking around gathers the following info (yes make a gather info roll!)
1. Independant prospectors are getting stiffed by sternmetal and there is going to be a demonstration outside the plant in a couple of days (days are 14 hours long by the way).
2.A homestead was attacked the the crickets last week.
3.they still haven't cleared up the mess from that exposion at the Blind Eye mine las month, some suspect sabotage by a disgruntled ex sternmetal employee.
4. A body was found a couple of days ago, killed in a fall seemingly, strange how it was found in the middle of the devils swamp.
5. They say jus before the explosion at the Blind eye mine one of the miners reported finding something, something...Ancient!

if the PCs ask about sara stirling they get blank looks untill they show the holo then one guy says "yeah sure i know her, had red hair las time i saw her an called herself marie but that sure looks like her, sings up at the Blue ice nightclub"
At this point a load of Sternmetal goons turn up and start to pick a fight with the independants. pick a side yes its...the bar room brawl!!!
 
Seeing as you know the ending, I don't suppose this would be a good choice as a game to run whilst you're back?

Chasing sara-Part 3
The Blue ice Jazz lounge
Probably the classiest joint in this one horse town, the security is tight no weapons allowed.
Its all blue and chrome and moody lighting.
Asking around brings forth the owner, one Max Branage Mer4 Rog4 wears a smoking jacket and puffs on a huge cigar quite a distinctive character. He is a professionally relaxed guy.
Play this guy cool, the PCs should think he's a good guy, he is, but he's a badly compromised good guy.
The PCs will need to convince him that they represent Marie/Saras family or are legit law enforcement agents, otherwise he will not agree to release any personal details. Showing the holo he looked puzzled then smiles.
He can tell the PC's that Marie/ Sara worked here as a singer, "She was a very cool chick, though I think i prefered her with red hair, then one day, about a month ago, I gets this email saying she's quitting and she's sorry about the short notice, and thats that. Weird no? You think she's ok? So who was she really?"
he tries to find out as much as poss without appearing to suspect.
He can give the PC's her old address 142b Rudenski Street. He also says "You should talk to Sooz Sunnil, a croupier, at my casino "The Gold Rush" its jus down the road, she seemed to be Sara's best friend. Look if I think of anything else where can I get hold of you?"

The Gold Rush Casino
Quite plush considering its location, but not very big, slot machines surround the walls with the gaming tables in the centre. Security is again tight with weapons scanners at the door.
If the PCs have already spoken to max getting an interview with Sooz is straight forward, other wise some gather info/ liason/ bluff/ bribery will be needed to get a handle on her as having known marie/sara well.
Sooz Sunill Pro2 a petite indian girl, finding out that Marie was leading a double life comes as a major shock to her. She is more than happy to cooperate, if a little emotional.
"She jus disappeared, I spoke to one of the Huscarles and he said he'd look into it, but he never got back to me".
If this confuses the PC's she explains that although Sternmetal act as the standing government, there is an Imperial representative on the planet. The Baron Gregor Ilkuishiir, he acts as a kind of counter balance to the Sternmetal adminsitration, and his Huscarles act as a police force in areas not specifically operated by Sternmetal. He sits on most of the civilian forums.
She tells the PC's that in the last week before marie disappeared she was definitely acting spooked but wouldnt tell her why.
Sooz thinks she'd started dating someone, but marie didnt reveal who.
If pressed she says she thinks it was someone from Sternmetal as she saw marie being dropped off by a Sternmetal air/raft once.
She suggests that they go and check out maries apartment.

The Apartment
Situated in a better part of town, the prefab block has 6 apartments, maries is the left hand ground floor one. A spot check DC15 reveals a ground car parked jus up the road with an individual in it. If challenged he drives away quickly. (use street thug Rog6) if somehow captured he proves intractable, all he can tell is that he was hired by Sternmetal Security to keep an eye on flat B for anything suspicious.
He obviously reports straight back to Sternmetal.

If Sooz has tagged along she can get the Super to open up for her, otherwise some bluffing or B&E is needed to gain egress. A complete balls up summons the Huscarles 2 guys in a ground car (use hi tech guards).
Once inside it becomes obvious sara left in a hurry, or it was made to look like she left in a hurry. Clothes, a bag, purse and some girly stuff are missing.
The only clue is the fridge magnets

Which jus happens to be in the hallway doing the cleaning.
asking it for Frank and Jacks message illicits the following response, any other questions are probably beyond its programming.
"Yes i have a message for Frank and jack from sara" in Saras voice "Guys looks im in the shit ok I only got a few seconds right look I'll hole up at the Blind Eye canyon mine workings ok? shit I gotta go come soon! love u."

Actually the only problem this way is if Lisa wants to edit part 3 in some way, which may not be a likely event, so carry on...

Chasing Sara part 4
Blind Eye Canyon
U can rent ATV's or air/rafts for standard rates.
The trip is uneventful, u get to see a lot of very dull jelicean scenery, it starts to rain.

The mine workings look deserted from a distance.
The mine head looks like it was destroyed by an explosion (Demolitions DC10) a deliberate explosion (DC20). Search rolls reveal that a starship landed here in the last couple of weeks, and a ventilation shaft grating has been removed recently to.
Who bought some rope?
Climbing down the shaft leads into an undamged part of the mine workings.
Who bought a torch?
100m along a stack of crates block the passage, a really bad smell permeates the air, the stench of rotting flesh. Behind the crates is a badly charred body, a search (yeuch!) reveals an ID in the name of Marie Mason. A T/Medical DC15 reveals the body isn't even female.
The crates contain guns and explosives by the way.
Oh the PC's did leave a guard on the surface didn't they?
If not they have a lil surprise a gang of beligerant Crickets and no way of communicating with them. (use barbarian warriors but add a Jump +9 and the ability to jump 5x further than normal). If there is a guard they attempt to sneak up and silence him. They also wreck what ever vehicle the pc's came in.
Hopefully the PC's beat off the cricket attack and make their way home, (some T/Mech rolls needed otherwise its some Navigation/ Survival rolls...it's a long walk!).
On the way back into town, 2 air/rafts filled with heavily armed Sternmetal goons pick them up and "invite" the PC's to a meeting with Derek Taylor the Sternmetal Director of Operations on Jelicea. They don't take "no" for an answer.

To the average traveller party that would be reason alone to ditch the job and go into the arms business :)

lol perhaps i should expand, guns as in rifles and auto pistols and explosives as in mining charges nothing that exciting, but useful to a tech level 1 society wanting to wage war against a far superior foe! the question the pc's should be asking is the whys and the who's not the how much can i get for them? and if they do try floggin them in town the who if not the why will become abundantly clear, painfully so!
 
Any party worth their salt aren't going to try selling them on world.....

but then we are talking about a Traveller party here :)
