SOC-10

Click for the huge version.

This is the local subsector map of the Ivanez region, located loosely somewhere rimward of the Solomani sphere.

Any glaring faults?

Neato!

This is supremely awesome. I love the detail, way more than the usual maps. It kicks butt! Oh and it's pretty. (but can it fight? :p sorry couldn't help myself)

Good gravy, that's awesome! You've fit all salient points of solar systems into each hex!! Brilliant!

Thanks, I wanted to be able to present the players with something that has some eye candy, but at the same time allowed them to plan (and present some vague sense of scale). This led to some complex arrangements of data that might not be obvious so that it all can be crammed into the hex without being gaudy. Mot appears to be the limit in terms of how much can go into a hex without looking horrible.

Such as gas giants have their orbiting bodies aligned to the right whereas rocky worlds stagger them (The gas giant of Jelt vs. The many moons of Gall).
Worlds aligned on the same "line" but not next to each other are in trojan orbits (Reom).
Clars has 2 giants in a binary orbit, hence them being next to each other, but no explicit "primary" body exists on the map.

Well, I'd be totally thankful. And happy. Either way, again great job.

Maybe. That actually sounds pretty spiffy. Have a particular MTU era source I can pull from that has distance information, satellites, etc? I have the Spinward Marches book, but it doesn't list specifics. If I did it, I'd like it to atleast have a vague resemblance to canon.

What software did you use to create your map? And can it produce a "printer-friendly" version with a white background?

I like the touches about trojans and binary planets. You've even got multiple stars in one system, although I don't see anything about distances between multiple stars (I'm probably missing it).

I used the free image editing software "Gimp". It's just about everything Photoshop is and more.

For "printer friendly" I print it in Microsoft Picture viewer and tell it to do a full page print. The map was designed to be legible on paper... at least on some of the mid range Brother printers I have here around the office.

And a white background version isn't feasible this time around. Given the way I did the shading, it looks awful without a black background. (Due to a combination of painting stuff black and fading to alpha. I'd have to redo like half the hexes and even then I'm not confident it will look right.)

Edit: Star distances between each other aren't really in there. They are listed as distance from the primary, but don't reference distance between each other. To find it, you can infer from the distance from the primary.

I was afraid of it being too busy too. At times it looks real cluttered.
I'm not sure how it could be cleaned out.

It's the TL A+ Navigators Advanced Mapping Function.

I mean really this is a full color map with all the bodies shown, with stellar data and UPP where needed. Yep, Ran, you can be my cartographer anyday, I dig the busy. It's like a detail zoom in from the Basic Hex info. :D

Oh and Ran, I don't know how Canon it is but I like the Site in my ADSGD. The Interactive Traveller Atlas. Again, can't vouch for its Canon.

But sure know that if I find a Truly Canon Source of such detail I will most assuredly let you know. ASAP, Stat even. :)

Frankly I am desperately seeking info on Regina and Related Locations. Like a bloody map of the Mainworld and such. *shrugs* One of these days.

I've been using Paint Shop Pro (I got it free with other software years back) and it's pretty handy, but it's starting to show it's age (this is before Corel got it).

I almost downloaded GIMP a few weeks ago after running across it. Think I might have to give it a go.

Paint Shop Pro won't recognize the TIFF formats my scanner puts out.

Ah the Gimp.

Yep did some stuff with the Gimp back when I was running a dual-boot Win9X/Linux Crimson Hat 6.0. Yep I like it, recently plugged it to a fellow Mac head, I know you can make it work on OS X, but forgot. *sigh* That comes later. Still have pencils and pens and markers and paper and they still work. *grins* Scanner helps too.

Dukam!

Grand Survey and WBH have maps of Regina.
I do believe I have copy of Grand Survey, [um...insert that Bilanidin phrase of happiness, *sigh* need to get back to that too.] and all this time I didn't check it...*looks in ADSGD* yep Catalog Number CT-28-DGP, grrrr. Thanks again Andrew.

Cool, more DGP....

OK, it's true I totally dig DGP and well, *happy sigh* the SOM has been many an hour of comfort snuggled up with it and a light (but dimmed for Jump :p). So I am kinda biased. :D

Thanks again, and can one get that, or Grand Survey for that matter anymore? Can I say that I really miss DGP's stuff. Always wanted my Jump Physics 101 Hypertext-1100 standard. (Vol. 10, or something in the Tradition of DGP teasing us with the SOM, us thinking that the SOM (Vol. 2) would come out and I think it like Solomani and Aslan or some such labeled clearly (Vol. 2). Ah, the end of a Dream, that Vol.

Anyway, again, thanks Andrew,
Your Bestest Drooling Fan almost ever (always leave wiggle room. :p),
Mags.

EDIT: Inspired to go and look for Grand Survey I also found a copy of Grand Census in the Archives, wicked....oh now I have to go and update the Index...and should redo the Catalog Number Systems as well, raanku. *sigh*

Ran,

This is AWESOME. This looks like a Subsector Duke's subsector status map to me. This would look like something from Traveller for reals all etched out of brass. Or glass.

What size is each hex in this version? 1" ?

I suggest experimenting with fonts more, the one for the fine print is a great font, but may not be the best for going small like that.

Very, very cool! Up it goes on the fridge!
