Do not forget the Stellar Sea Cow, which was hunted into extinction in the 1740s off of the Komandorski Islands in the Bering Sea. It was a very large kelp eating relative of the Manatee, and apparently existed off of California as well. Then you have the salt-water crocodile, which has been seen up to 100 miles offshore in the Indonesia-New Guinea-Australia area.
