Atpir class Grav Tank (Zho TL D / 3FW)

My players are currently trying to get off a balkanized TL 7 planet with "imported" gear from outside polities. Feel free to steal this for flavor in your own game, and if someone could give me the name of the current Zho MBT (generally matched against the Trepida) I'd appreciate it.

Other gear can be found here:

We're looking for some new players (down to 3 active players, game has been running for more than 2 years) so if you're interested drop me a PM.

The "Atpir" class grav tank was the Zho MBT through most of the 3FW, and has a distinctive "hammerhead" prow designed to increase maximum speed by cavitating the air flow ahead of the tank. This system proved problematic in some atmospheres, and was replaced in later versions (named the Alphet class) which retained the prow "bulge" but removed the hammerhead cavitation nacelles. The Alphet class was in use for less than a decade before the introduction on BSD armour in the Consulate, and most Atpir and Alphet class tanks were sold off to client states as part of the standardization process

In the initial assaults it aquitted itself well against Imperial forces, but was seen less and less as the 3FW continued. Analysts at the time thought that this was due to strategic allocation issues, until the capture of a Zhodani maintenance depot in the city of Khaveg showed that almost a regiment of Aptir tanks was undergoing maintenance to refit theirmain gun, at the time a TX-547 Plasma gun.

Analysis of the barrels of the guns showed that pitting caused by overly energetic ionization in the plasma chamber caused degradation in the focusing field coils, resulting in reduced discharge and eventually catastrophic loss. While analysts acknowledge that the reenforcements from the core sectors are ultimately what turned the tide and allowed the 3I to complete an armistice, opinions are mixed on whether the territorial losses suffered would have been greater if the coalition had been able to field more planetary assault forces.

Scott,

According to the Rebellion Sourcebook, the current Zho MBT is known by the Imperial designation Z-80. That's the only designation I could find.

DGP's 101 Vehicles has some Zho military designs, but I don't believe any were MBTs. There were two types of "speeders" and some APCs, but no main battle tank I can remember.

Regards,
Bill

Scott,

According to the Rebellion Sourcebook, the current Zho MBT is known by the Imperial designation Z-80. That's the only designation I could find.

Nomenclature for Zhodani vehicles is pretty spotty to say the least. In GURPS Traveller: Alien Races 1, while a Grav MBT isn't listed, a Grav APC is listed, designated as "TLI-960 Diziyanatl" which has little to do with the "Z-80" style naming system either.

I don't think it's that hard to reconcile things.

Z-80 sounds pretty much like an Imperial intelligence identification name (80th Zhodani vehicle type). Similar to how in the West we call 9K11 Malyutka ("Малютка") the AT-3 Sagger, the Zhodani would probably have their own name and designation for their tank.

Late to the party, sorry. The Zhodani designation for the Z-80 is, according to 101 Vehicles, "Qiknavra".
Several years ago, I did a STRIKER conversion of this vehicle. Want me to post it?
