Alternity races

Rahnd

SOC-9
Any one played Alternaty?

the races in there i think could convert over fairly well.

The feline species could just be a subspecies of the Aslan, the Syrans and ugg...cant remember the other one would make another two good additions..

the mechanical race could make a interesting addition to the Ancients work with humanity. same with the Frall, and would give the Zhodani some psionic competition.

Now, since Alternity was a TSR thing, that may be why WotC stopped supporting it, but does anyone else know why the support stopped?

Once WotC bought TSR, they stopped supporting all of the TSR lines. I believe if WotC did not get the Star Wars licences for RPGs, they would have started Alternity again with 3rd edition. Once D20 Future comes out, I also believe it will be only a matter of time before the Alterity/Star*Drive setting for D20 gets published.

The main reason WOTC stopped publishing ALTERNITY was lack of sales. The core books sold well but the modules and supplements did not ($21.95 for a 96 page supplement with horrible artwork back in 1998? I think not!). Also, WOTC wanted to focus all game development efforts on d20 system. Finally, unconfirmed rumors have it that one of the conditions for getting the STAR WARS RPG rights was that WOTC not publish any other sci-fi games or materials.

Maybe, but I'll wait until I see it.
One of the settings at least might show up as a Polyhedron mini-game. Some of the other mini-games have been very good. (the Gamma World analog and the Pulp game for example)

And I think some of the Alternity stuff is available as a ESD for cheap.

[Edit] added: the thread has links to the main offical site and the main fan site

Hey Rahnd, did you ever get to see those conversions for the Alternity races? How were they? I've been trying for a month or so now to get a chance to see them, but the Wizards board doesn't seem to have the info anymore, and I can't seem to find anyone else who does.

As always, YMMV

Unfortuently I did not, however, I could just make a attempt at converting the races stright out of the Alternety PHB.

A couple of the Alternity races (the Fraal and Seshayans, at least) are in the D20 Modern Threat Manual, out last month...

And this
document, published by WOTC is an official conversion guide for Alterity to D20 monsters and creatures. So you can do your own.

And where would the rest of us who might be interested in such a thing get their hands on the conversion document?

I'm rather curious if anyone has or knows of any conversions of the Alternity aliens, in particular the Mechalus, to any form of Traveller.

They had quite a few Alternity races in the D20 Future book, which could easily convert to T20. There's an Aleerin race in there that looks like the Mechalus, but don't know if that's from the Star Frontiers races that were included.

Let me know in a PM if you want me to look something up, Jame.

Hi Jame,
A thread resurrection in the nick of time. :-)

Just this past weekend I started to convert my Alternity setting over to Traveller in anticipation of the new MGT for a new campaign avoiding the OTU altogether. I began plotting the worlds into Astro-synthesis software for the mapping and was also wondering about converting the races.

IIRC at least the Fraal, Weren and the Sesheyan are in Menace Manual for D20 Modern and that the Aleerin are in D20 Future.

The Alternity web site

http://alternityrpg.net

also has numerous useful resources that are worth a look.
